Pure Fibre static IP address

Due to the Huawei Wifi AX3 router provided by Afrihost not supporting basic functions like dynamic DNS, I requested a static IP from Afrihost. However, I cannot get it to work and I'm getting conflicting information from support agents.

When I go to https://ifconfig.co I can see my public IP is <static ip redacted>. However, my router still has a dynamic IP assigned and all my existing port forwarding rules stopped working. The explanation for this from <support agent #2> is quoted verbatim below

"You need to be aware that if we assign a static IP address to your Fibre package as we have done, you will connect through a natted IP address. This means that you will first connect to a NAT box and then to your public IP. This setup does not allow for port forwarding, which is necessary for accessing devices on your network from outside. If your goal is to access devices on your network from outside your network, we recommend setting up a dynamic DNS..."

However, <support agent #1> told me I had to replace my router's PPoE settings with the following Static IP settings

Static IP: <static ip redacted>
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 169.1.233.1
DNS1: 169.1.1.3
DNS2: 169.1.1.4

When I do this the router connects, but I cannot access the internet. I've rebooted both the ONT and router as instructed.

Can anyone from Afrihost advise how to properly setup a static IP address? I need port forwarding to work, that's the whole point of a static IP. If this is not possible with Afrihost (OpenServe) can anyone point me to an ISP that does work?

This is strange, I was assigned a static ip and rebooted then it worked.

I am sure @Afrigirl will assist you soon.

cant you just use AH's own dynamic dns (username.ip.afrihost.co.za) ?
