I am using Telkom as my ISP (do Broadband) and am thinking of changing to Afrihost. I am currently using a Telkom router (on contract). I was wondering if Telkom will still
let me keep using their Telkom router, on contract, if I cancel my
internet account (do Broadband) and leave them for Afrihost.

Best to go read the T&C's but can say with certainty that you will have to return the router or will have penalty fees to pay for early termination of contract. Also suggest you go and read the Afrihost uncapped thread before signing up!

I see. Does Afrihost sell routers? and will they send the router by courier? (there is no Afrihost shop in my town)

Hi there. Generally Telkom does let you keep the router as the chances of re-selling a used router for them is minimal. They may ask you to pay a fee if you are still in contract with them. Best to check with them. The router will still work with an Afrihost account if you keep it.

We do also sell routers, starting from R595 (once off). This is pre-configured (provided you sign up your ADSL account first) and then delivered to your doorstep. Depending on your payment method, this can be in 3 working days.

Super_Saiyan,

You doing the same move as I did. Signed up with Do Broadband Telkom account as they were having this free installation promotion, got the free modem and all that jazz.

Then moved to Afrihost, I kept the modem (not even a whisper from Telkom about it) and it's working perfectly. I think the only downfall is, if it breaks... you are on your own. :-)

If you signed for 12/24 months and are in the contract you'll have to pay in,if you do it after the contract term it's yours

How many months left on this contract?

Actually, yes... listen to MickeyD and PsyWulf.

Confirm the contract situation first.

Reason being that you could end up paying significant penalties for cancelling the contract and that negates any saving you may have made by moving to Afrihost.

I did the same! The had the free 3 months 1mb uncapped plus free installation plus free modem to keep after three months!

So I did this and got a Duo plus 300 modem from the technician that came to install the line plus modem, ALL for FREE! Then after a month we had bad weather and I got a spike and the power supply of the modem had blown! Took it to telkom in the Vaal Mall. Gave them my telephone nr. and said my modem is Faulty!
She took the modem in the box and went into the safe and came out with a NEW Netgear modem and a slip! So on the slip it said R839 credit and then they debited it with R839 for the modem! So i got the new replacement for free!

Cancelled my contract after the three months and moved ISP and no word from them! Coz they know they got me paying R150 line rental per month!

I would suggest going to your local telkom and telling them you arent happy with your internet and you would like to cancel it asap and will there be any penalty fees included!

Then move to AfriHost, keep your modem and be HAPPY!

Soz for LONG post :D
