Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

My problem is hardly only the torrent shaping. I only bring up how severely they're shaped this last week compared to almost a whole year now.
I've been happy with Afrihost for almost a year now. Never had an issue.
Shape my torrents, I care not. To a point though.
But overall my Steam/Gog downloads were shaped/or slowed (for all your legal arguments), my streaming was down to 360 quality max, my gaming pings are high and erratically spiking. It's not simply about the torrent shaping for me if you read my earlier posts since this whole slow down started.

I actually agree with you, my IDM dloads are also restricted to 1meg and this on a 4meg line. My cumulative dloads of say 6 or 7gigs does take an awfully long time since the new 'restrictions' and whilst I'm happy to jump on the wagon with the majority of disappointed people I read the the Mweb thread to sort of balance the way I feel :).

I haven't been reading through all the threads but are the unshaped guys also feeling the strain?

See I knew that Durban guys are more enlightened than Cape Town people. Here we have a great soul that offers to cut his usage when Gauteng guys want to use the internet. If a capetownians weren't so selfish we wouldn't have this problem at all.

hahahaha you must not like Cape Town at all...

I'm happy I'm not with mweb damn! I'm also not one of the people threatening to leave Afrihost! I just want my line back to what I've been experiencing is all. Mostly my games! At the moment I'm getting lower pings on my 3G connection tethering my cellphone. And Battlefield 4 beta multiplayer next week!! But local servers should be ok, I haven't tested local games since the slow down. but the download of the files is what worries me!

Hey Baron :), have you tried the turbocharge feature? I actually love it when I really want that episode and can't wait it gives the full speed of my line. I think Afrihost allocates about 5 hours worth, give it a try.

I didn't know this feature existed till I came to the forum recently again haha, never needed such a feature.
I don't even know where it's found actually.

Also my gaming ping needs fixing :P need more than 5 hours for a weekend, let alone the month XD

Obviously something happened between 19:30 and 20:30. At 19:30 I was downloading at 20 KB/s on an http download and now (20:30) it is going at 110KB/s. Client zone says no shaping so my slow downloads were caused by shaping. Nice that I am now downloading at full speed but I cannot live with 20 KB/s for a large part of the day. If this is the norm then I have signed up for the wrong account or wrong ISP. I will see how it goes tomorrow but if it is the same then I need to look again. I wouldn't mind if there was an acknowledged problem and a plan to fix it but the attitude of get used to it does not work for me.

can someone please point me in some direction here.
If the shaping didn't screw up the latency in games badly enough, I think my DSL line is giving in.
After restarting the router, it takes quite a few minutes to finally sync after many attempts and now it's syncing at 2.4mbps and the SNR is jumping around between 0-5db.
The attenuation jumped from around 45db to 55db as well?
Here and there during the daytime hours it was stable at 5mbps with 18db SNR.

WTF  :(

Where do people see their shaping policy and the turbocharge options? I looked on clientzone and don't see anything on my connectivity page.

I'm still at 10kb/s. On my home now to see if my games work.

It is possible for it to fluctuate a little sometimes, but it should mostly be stable if there is nothing wrong with your line. Are they doing upgrades in your area?

It's only shown in the new ClientZone.

And still 'Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P', at 21:15; ****ing magical. Guess 9pm isn't quite after-hours enough yet.

Hang on, what's the breakdown of the "Shaping policy" numbers? Mine's exactly the same - 18.8 / 6.25. Tell me that's not a percentage of line speed allowed.

I have 1/4 of a percent more than you on p2p...the network on my side is clearly waaaaaaaay less under strain and can quite obviously handle more traffic easily.
