The criteria is your line speed and your usage patterns. We allow for more aggressive usage on the higher line speeds, but it comes down to how much you use over a period of time and how we view your usage trends and projected usage. Eventually we come up with an index of which users get shaped and to what extent that will reclaim the amount of bandwidth we need to bring capacity in line with demand at that specific point in time. The system is continually calculating based on total IPC usage. While we're under what we would consider a "comfort zone", then we leave virtually the entire client base on that IPC unshaped, except maybe for the most aggressive bandwidth users.

So 4 gig and we get shaped to 6.5% :(
 
afriman, I am having trouble with my usenet traffic on my 4mbps uncapped account. I am getting speeds of 12-15kBps. I registered for the free 1GB capped account and switched over to that and I get max line speed. My client zone shows that I have downloaded 18.5%, 6.25% of which is p2p (on my uncapped account) and that I should be operating with no shaping. please advise ASAP.
 
ElecEng, I think you don't understand the clientzone. That means you are only getting 18.5% and 6.25% of your speed respectively. All of us are in the same boat.

But at 2.8Gb on a 1 Mbs line I must be the least aggressive user in SA - why am I being shaped?

well that sucks, this is the first time I have been shaped by afrihost on ntp :(

It may take up to 24 hours for the new policies to kick in, but you should have the Business Unshaped performance by tomorrow :)

It also depends on the period of time that you used that amount of data to determine the projected total. But we're still a lot of people more than we'd like and I'm really hoping that we can start slowly unshaping more people for longer :)

You should be experiencing lighter or no shaping in the later evening, especially between midnight and 7am.
 
Afriguy, I have asked this numerous times but I will ask again - what do I have to do to get my double money back guarantee to happen?

That is a blatant lie - there was no reduction in shaping at all last night.

The percentages represent the approximate throughout on those protocols while you are on the current shaping policy. It does not indicate any kind of usage or totals :(
 
ok, turboboost or whatever it is took me back to line speed. ito it was the shaping. this is not fun :(
