Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

We're always quick to complain, but wanted to take this time to compliment.
I'm really not quite sure if this is related to the recent IPC increase which AfriMan reported a few days earlier, but really, this weekend my Netflix was purring like a happy kitty, and I hate cats. I digress.

I was able to download at 720p happily, and sometimes for a few seconds at 1080p.
On Sunday I downloaded a 111MB update to a PS3 game off the PSN in around 90 seconds.

So well done guys! Keep doing whatever you're doing....
I just hope it stays this way.

Thanks for the feedback Afriman, appreciate it.

Shaping seems to be a bit harsher today at 18% for downloads. I would rather move back to a capped account again and avoid any shaping. Not really a use to have a 4meg line that feels like a 1meg.

I see that I can only switch packages again on the 1st of December. Anyway I can move before that?

Thanks.

It depends on what your service priority is. If you want to have downloads on demand at full speed (or torrents) Uncapped can always potentially be shaped. So Capped or Business is probably a better option. If you just want to always make sure you get your real time priority services and downloads can arrive when they arrive (or just a little slower).

Telkom has a network freeze over mid-December to early-Jan - so it's doubtful that our new capacity will arrive before that. However I do expect that December will see a dropoff in traffic as business winds down for December.

Awesome - thanks for posting this :)

From that thread it's not clear whether those clients is using a backup account to test - I see on one he lists an Afrihost prepaid account. Remember anyone can have a Free GB account. Am still checking though :)

Either way - our IPC is our IPC. Even MTN don't have access to our capacity for their business clients so if they were to ever bring on another ISP it would have no impact on us :)

EDIT: Confirmed with MTN that we are still the only ISP running on MTN :)

Ahh yay :D phew I was getting so worried sir :p

@Afriman

The 1gb free account one can sign up for. Will the shaping policies be exactly the same on a normal 4mb account?

Hi Afriman - thanks for all the help with my PM's. I really appreciate all your help with my questions :)

No - there is no shaping on a free GB account. The only restriction it has is that it's locked to a single line. Otherwise it's a fully fledged capped account :)

Me too. Was wondering what the [BEEP] was going on ;)

Kind sir, I can understand why we shaped during the day coz of peak times and higher demand on the network but when the network is quiet like at 11 or 12 to 7 am, there won't be shaping applied as the demand Is not so much at those times. Is that true :)

If you are shaped at those times it just means the network isn't as quiet as you think it should be, theoretically. Remember, back teat... if there's any load above the network's available capacity we'll always be the ones to suffer. It's just the way of the world.

Afriman Why do the OpenWeb clients believe they using the MTN network? Is BEEP brainwashing there customers to believe they on the MTN Network :p just been looking at the thread. Strange

Not sure why - more surprised that no-one has commented on the strangeness. Looks to me like they are comparing their speeds with a Free GB or backup account from us :(
