Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

They will be upgrading soon! They are just waiting for the capacity they ordered to be processed :)

Yea as Vicv said, it doesnt depend on usage. Btw - since you are down in CPT, you shouldnt experience that much shaping - as the cape town area is usually less busy than Joburg

If you have the resources. Business all the way! Unless you just stream/browse/game, then no need - but for downloads, Business gives you peace of mind :D

They usually shape it down to 12.5% (of your line speed) for downloads and 8.8% for P2P. But most of the time it's around 50%, during peak maybe dropping to 12.5%. After hours your line should run at full speed. In Cape Town the shaping is a lot lighter (from my experience), and my line sometimes isn't shaped during the day, and definitely not on weekends.

I did notice that at one stage I downloaded a lot over a few days, and was shaped down to 12.5% for the whole weekend (even at night). I messaged AfriMan and the line cleared up the following day (might have been an error on their side). However, (most importantly) during that time browsing and streaming all worked 100%.

Yup - as stated, browsing/streaming/gaming is never shaped.
 
I do download, but it's all automated, so I seldom check on it. The biggest issue is getting home and not being able to browse or stream.

Okay. Why dont you try a standard account :D Should be all good then :P

My downloads are all scheduled for the night, so I dont even notice shaping if I ever have it :D
 
It's start of the month and I've only had 12gb download for reckoning and hitman, shaped to 18%dl 6%p2p, it's always shaped whenever I check, what is going wrong here? Normal pages are loading so slow, trying to download the Afrihost diagnosis app even failed, What's going on?

Shaping should not effect browsing, possibly another issue here. Uhmm - we need the results from the tool :/
 
that's another concern. It's like I'm allowed high speed as long as I turbo charge and pay more for extra charges otherwise I must remain content with tricle-speeds. This wasn't an issue last year when I signed up, it's deteriorated since the % stuff and turbocharges got introduced

I meant, does it improve your situation when used? If it does then you are being shaped, if it doesn't then it's a Telkom problem.

I think it has more to do with all the line speed upgrades that have caught ISP's with their pants down and now they're tripping when they walk :)
 
Turbocharge gets downloads back to about 150kB/s where last year I had 400+ on my 4meg connection when downloading from say steam

Do you get 400 on capped? If yes, then it looks like classic bottom-of-the-foodchain regarding shaping and contention ratio on the home uncapped accounts.

I would have left last year when it started.

Seeing that you're still around, the new capacity is just around the corner so you might as well wait it out.
 
I had 400 on uncapped 4meg. Steam could download at full line speed, nowadays I usually load balance downloads via connectify dispatch over ADSL and Telkom mobile

I'm trying to figure out if you have an account problem or a Telkom problem.

Try with the capped account and see if you get full speed.
 
Well, just downloaded iTunes setup, jumped at 400+ KB/s but settled on 120ish, the Afrihost tester app dl now at 30-60
