Well I started a 17GB Nzb download yesterday in the morning and it finished about 7am today while full shaping was applied. I dont think that's to bad. I am Unshaped now, but totally understand why Afrihost had to shape. Thanks for the great work Afrihost.

What I don't get is that Afriman and Afriguy says that shaping is overall. They look at the whole system and not individuals. So why is everyone shaped differently.
I was shaped 15% and 6.25% last night.

Right now: 07:57,
Shaping Policy: No Shaping Applied

Shaping is per region

ok now I am not shaped, but look at my damn ping again!!!!

Ooooo and how funny!!! Right after my last post I get shaped to:

C'mon guys I think it is time to get real about what is going on there!! Me thinks the launch of AfriHost mobile messed everything up.

Shaping Policy: 75% Download/ 75% P2P

And so today's cascading speeds start. Nevermind that I can't even stream ****ing Youtube at ****ing 480p at the moment.

Well I havent changed....

100% REALTIME
SPEED

Account Overview

Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

Good point - how does money back guarantee work? Im definitely not satisfied?

Afriteam...someone needs to look at twitch performance...

Watching live ESL WCS now and while my average is only 125kB/s throughput performance is stuttering on medium for crying out loud...4mb account. :what:

We've run a quite a few tests and we've found that it works as well as can be expected. If found it to be pretty bandwidth hungry and was maxxing out my 10Mbps line to stream at higher qualities. A bit scary actually.

If you're running anything in the background, experience is not great :(

Guys I understand everyones frustration as this all makes me nervous as hell as I am waiting to get my internet up and running but I must say that I think we should give them the benefit of doubt here.

It is only a week, maybe two max.

So let's give it some time and see...

That being said it has been a bit hard to get my internet up and running. Telkom tells me my line is ready and they are waiting for Afrihost to confirm that the customer (me) will do the self install. Afrihost on the other hand tells me that they are waiting for telkom to let them know that the line is ready. ARGH

As I said before, my line is now permanently shaped this month even though it wasn't previously... ever. And even though my usage is less this month. I just 'Turbocharged' my line and these are the results of a speedtest on the line (2MB)

I'm not too happy with the international result. Moreso with the fact that I can be 75% shaped.

Shaping should not affect international speeds at all. Remember that a speedtest is basically a very small packet (which we don't shape) so it should return real-time speeds - shaping only affects most non-realtime services like downloads and torrents.

Can you drop me a PM, there may be another issue here :(

Is this heavy shaping due to a cable problem again, or is it the norm for users to be shaped to below 20% of line speed during the day?
I'm moving my ISP and was considering Afrihost but now I'm not so sure..

You and me both. Afrihost seems to be making news for all the wrong reasons, will have to hold on before deciding to move here.

That's the thing. I run nothing in the background when I watch youtube or Twitch or any kind of stream for exactly the purpose of cutting out anything else that takes bandwidth - hell I even take my phone and other devices off the network.

Using Bitmeter I can clearly see the speed jumps between low, medium and high quality when watching a live stream. Even on high the streams NEVER break 350kB/s PEAK and average is around 220kB/s. All well within in the limits of a 4mb account.

I have done some tracert during these times and there are some 180ms-290ms hops around hop 8 through 13.

Oh - everything else runs brilliantly. Only twitch which as a problem. Also note - this is only between 17:30 and 22:00 when streaming performance is impacted.

Shap shap :D

What is your line speed?

The shaping is crazy right now, P2P is completely unusable.

Any reason for this Afriteam?

We are seeing very high usage on the network since late last week. We're seeing demand slowly die down, but it still seems to higher than normal and the network is shaping accordingly to bring demand in line with available capacity.

What about the extreme latency on the network at the moment??

What account? I'm still on25%

Shaping will still differ from user to user based on their usage patterns, though pretty much everyone on Uncapped could experience shaping at peak demand times like we're seeing at the moment.

But we're still seeing just about everyone being unshaped between midnight and about 7am. So there is still plenty of bandwidth to go around.

Shaping went from nothing, to 75%, to 18.8% in the space of about 3 minutes. That's not the signature of a terribly dynamic or intelligent system.

Further, to raise an old issue again: I have a 4mb uncapped account largely for the sake of convenience and not having to monitor bandwidth. I've been at or around the 200GB mark once or twice, but most months my usage is around a 100 or so. How the **** is it fair that I get treated the same as some clown who permanently has 50 torrents queued?

Honestly wish you'd desist with the horse manure, Afrihost.

Guys, i have been a big ambassador for Afrihost and in this month alone got 4 of my friends to sign up with you guys. But I must say I am really starting to lose hope here. This is not what I am used to and really hope this isn't the new Afrihost. Cause if it is still like this by this weekend, then i am going to cancel.
