It is harsh, we know it's a far from ideal solution
I'm sure that our team will have something implemented to have the shaping eased for more users.

Why not opt for a capped account in that case
We're doing our best to shape as few clients as possible - we're still seeing shaping implemented a bit longer during off-peak times.

I could have done that it would have saved me a lot, I didn't mind subsidising for other users for a while, maybe one day my internet habits will change and I would use my fair share. The uncapped model only will work if you have low end users, mixed with high end users, but what pisses me of being such a low end user being shaped so badly when I need something NOW, specially when I was reading some other post from about the same time where they say their downloads where flying. Something just does not add up.
But now I most probably I will go for a capped account, but not with afrihost as they will have lost my business for a while

must agree with moklet - the all or nothing approach hurts the low end users - anyone under, say 80gigs, should not be shaped at all.
I fully agree with you, we are implementing too much shaping than what we'd like to see. Our team are working on this day and night to come to a solution to ease the shaping.

As I mentioned before, with the current constraints AH should rather shape according to individual use instead of network load. Lower end users are losing out.
We still really do believe that shaping based on overall network load allows us better management of our network. Shaping clients based on their individual usage seems a bit backwards to us - and will also complicate realtime processes.

It seems a bit backward for my bank account to keep on subsidising for a severely shaped experience, you guys rather have your low end user leave you so that there is more space for the high end users. Well you got what you want. Just remember for uncapped to work you will need a mix of low end users to subsidise high end users. If there is nothing in it for me as a low end user, e.g I get punished the same as the top downloader then yes it is time to move on

Fully agree with that. I would think that if capped & business uncapped users were shaped to just a small amount (90%?) to ease the shaping for home uncapped accounts (12.5% after hours is just ridiculous) it makes a lot more sense. Or maybe at this point it would be better to introduce the prioritization approach that OW has (bronze/silver/gold accounts)
Just my uninformed opinion though, I don't know anything about the internal processes of an ISP. But as it stands there is no reason for home uncapped users to stay with AH.
We truly believe that there is a deeper underlaying issue that's causing this. Our Business and Capped accounts have been setup specifically not to see any shaping - I'm afraid we can't change that now

You cannot shape capped accounts, ever; you'll have rioting in the streets. But declaring that 'business' accounts will never be shaped, at all, ever, even over weekends or at 2am, was a cock-up waiting to happen. That has, I'm sure, contributed greatly to this utterly farcical situation you find yourselves in.
But seriously dude, you as a company need to get the **** with it. Nearly 6 weeks in and you're still 'believing' things, and seeking to placate people with utterly meaningless tripe. Either start communicating what you're doing to sort out this mess, or grow a collective pair and admit that home uncapped accounts are to remain utterly useless so we can start moving on.

I still believe P2P and NNTP should be shaped and even blocked on business accounts. If said businesses want to priorities such protocols then they should incur the additional expense of routing said traffic through VPN's.
Otherwise, business accounts should be for businesses only and proof of such business needs to be established before account approval is initiated. Far too many people are using Afrihost's cheap business accounts as a means to abuse the network further.

Nobody's shooting the messenger; the messenger needs to convey to everyone else at Afrihost what the current public perception of their offerings is.
