Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

When will the shaping end? This morning you took my money, but all I can do is stream a few videos and do some online gaming. P2P and NNTP are dead!

EDIT: Is business uncapped truly unshaped?? If it is I would consider switching over.

Yes it is. It's 101% unshaped - it is afterall, business quality. It allows me to rdp into my servers, download my http/ftp files, stream media to clients, use this port or that port, all without managing my maximum speed on any of those :)

Yes guess where I switched over to the "business" uncapped :P

Was also shaped into the ground even though I only use my line from 7pm-1am so thought I'd give it a shot. From my experience I've experience no shaping over the past week on any of my downloads/uploads/gaming/streaming.

How much can you use on the 1mb before being throttled?

I'm currently with Mweb, and after upgrading to the 2mb I immediately got throttled for using 76gb last month.

According to the afrihost leaderboard (terrible idea IMO), some users are doing 250-300 gb on the 1mb uncapped. It's obviously a bad idea to go by that (fair use policy and all), so I'd like to hear some feedback from regular afrihost users - how much you're able to use without being throttled.

You're shaped when the network is under strain - happens often at the moment. Not on an individual basis.

Afrihost don't throttle, the consumer accounts are shaped according to how busy the network is.
 
Unfortunately you'll find that Afrihost will throttle you almost 24/7 (they call it shaping, but it is throttling - everyone who claims that Afrihost don't throttle have simple eaten too much Afrihost marketing material) and it doesn't matter how much data you've used, you will be throttled regardless.

Oh, get off it. Your incessant bleating doesn't at all help along the discussions regarding the actual issues.

I find it interesting that when someone asks a question and gets 10 misleading answers, you're silent, but as soon as the truth gets said, you get extremely upset and complain loudly.

The actual issue here is that someone is unhappy with Mweb because they have announced that they might throttle somtimes, and they're looking into Afrihost as an alternative. Well, Afrihost throttles 24/7, so if you're unhappy with Mweb because they might throttle sometimes, then clearly Afrihost isn't for you. If you can't accept that actual information is given, then tough luck for you. Go cry somewhere else.
 
You seem like one of those people I just mentioned on the OW thread. You will do and say anything to tarnish the good name of a good company.

Afrihost is a brilliant company going through a rough patch. Quite frankly if you do not like what they are doing and how they are doing it, join another ISP. Don't hammer on and on about the same things over and over again.

Tiresome.

Can't we rather make threads where we can post our incessant moaning and rather leave the "feedback" threads for useful feedback?

No, the actual issue here is your lacking comprehension: Throttling is universal restriction of data flow to a given rate; shaping is selective throttling. Youtube runs without restriction at all times, thus your connections is shaped, not throttled. You don't have to like it, but that's the simple gist of it. For you to continue interjecting with acerbic whining over semantics - especially when you're simply wrong - isn't contributing anything.

None of us who are actively participating in this thread are particularly happy at the moment. You're the only one deeming it necessary to just go make **** up.

Afriman threw a hissy fit and terminated my account after I pointed out that OpenTTD is, in fact, a game and not a P2P file transfer application, so starting this month, I'm no longer with Afrihost. As for usage stats, I totalled 20GB in June, 32GB in July and 135GB in August on a 4Mbps account, and I was throttled all the way through. In the end I managed to find a hole in their throttling setup so I could get semi-decent speeds out of them and managed 350GB in September and October. Please note that without using that hole in their throttling setup, I would have been limited to about 20-30kB/s at most at every time except in the middle of the night where I could go slightly higher.

Edit: Since people here get extremely angry when you point out how Afrihost performs and will try to drown it out with spam and personal attacks, feel free to send me a private message if you want more information.
