Looks worse than what I had. Something must be happening with the exchanges.
AfriGuy, did you get my PM?

No, its with Telkom. I did a port reset this morning . I'm waiting for the speed upgrades in the hope that it will improve. I'm on the 021 712 exchange if that helps you give any further comments.

This is absolutely disgusting :sick::mad::(:sick::mad::wtf::mad:

MWEB DOESN'T GIVE A SCHIT ABOUT YOUR ACTUAL NEEDS AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE ABOVE PICTURE. DEREK HAS TRULY LOST IT.

Stay the hell away from MWEB if you are looking for an ISP that matches your expectations of the service that you paid for.

Stick with Afrihost because they are one of very few ISPs in SA that actually cares about your needs and would kill anything to ensure your get what you paid for. Stop whining about slow speeds because Afrihost has already ordered for more capacity. Hell, being shaped to death temporarily is infinitely better than being throttled as a punishment for having crossed the mythical limits set by Derek blindly.

Hmmm

Getting like 2kb/s on p2p tonight. Only been with Afri since the start of the month and am not sure what to make of it yet. Downloading is either flying full speed or almost non existent. MWEB had become consistently slowish...not really sure what is better at the moment.

Can I ask an OT question? The line speed upgrades from telkom. How does that work. Do you need to be with them as an isp and and what about a line currently managed by afrihost? Also does one need to apply for a 10mb package then or what? Sorry if its been covered but the thread is looooong.

What Account? And speed? ( 1Mb, 2 Mb etc.)

I see from SAIX noticeboard that Bergvliet 6, 7 and 8 are down. Maybe they're fixing my problem.

/edit and back to 12 ms ping and .9Mbps speed. Let's see if it maintains.

/edit I guess I got over excited, latency has gone up again although speed hasn't completely borked yet. <sob>

afrihost is busting, their network cant handle the demand so they have throttled peer to peer right down - consider it is the 7th of the month and no service yet . Last night you could not even buy turbo minutes because the link would crash. This is bad news . Their answer to my ticket is pay more . I would love to be in a business where i could take money and then decide what to deliver .
What are the alternatives please , mweb ?

Anyone else in Durban struggling this morning? Connection is so slow it takes ages just to open a page.

Sorry to hear this. We're not seeing many faults in KZN right now on the Telkom notice board except for Reservoir Hills.

Have you run a trace route to see where latency is spiking?

I'm sorry if we have shaped more than anyone would like ideally, but it's not like the network is falling apart. In fact, we've pushed the network very hard and it's held up pretty well, and we believe that our system delivers the very best experience with the resources that we have.

This morning I'm seeing excellent latency and realtime speeds. As soon as we light up our new capacity on the network, we'll see shaping alleviated - so I honestly believe that our network is not "busting" or anything close to that :(

Is it normal for my youtube videos to stream slower than it actually plays on 360p on a 1mbps line. It's really frustrating to wait for a video to buffer 2min before you can watch it. I didn't have this problem with my previous isp. Also no shaping is applied to my account.

Hi Afrihost representatives.

Last month I downgraded from a 2mbs home uncapped bundle to a 1mbs business uncapped bundle. I spoke to Eugene K. on the live support (it was still working then) on the site to assist me with this. The new bundle is R100 cheaper than what I was on.

This was around the 25th of last month. Then I spoke to Afriman via PM to speed up the process, instead of letting it wait until the first of this month. Which he gladly did for me.

Yet this month I received a bill for the exact same amount.

I've email Afrihost support and it took 2 days for them to come back with an incompetent answer.

Here is the email I sent them RE the incorrect billing and I included the chat transcript:
Hi,

I have been billed incorrectly.

Please see my conversation below RE the downgrade to business account

Currently on home ADSL bundle 2mbs - want to upgrade to 1mbs business
===

Eugene K has joined the chat.

Eugene K: Good Afternoon [NAME], how are you today?

[NAME]: I'm good thank you

[NAME]: i have adsl bundle, 2mbs home. can i upgrade to 1mbs business bundle?

Eugene K: You most certainly can [NAME]

Eugene K: That change however will only take affect from November

[NAME]: i'd like to know how the billing will work and if i can change back to 2mbs home in december again if a prefer?

Eugene K: The downgrades will only take place during the next billing run

Eugene K: Any upgrades will take place instantly

[NAME]: and billing will be pro-rata? and is there any other costs to changing the package?

Eugene K: All the billing will be Pro-rata'd

[NAME]: and is there any other costs to changing the package?

Eugene K: Not at all

[NAME]: great. Where can I initiate the downgrade, or will you do that for me?

Eugene K: You can either log into the Clientzone and request the upgrade from there, or I can do it for you

[NAME]: In the client zone the line costs R149 (Up to 1024kbps) and the data R297 (1mbs Business). that adds to R446 but according to the site it should be R397 for business uncapped

Eugene K: The pricing will be adjusted as soon as the Bundle is created

[NAME]: will you please go ahead and do that for me

Eugene K: Sure!

Eugene K: And done!

[NAME]: Thank you. so it will be effective from 1 Nov?

Eugene K: That is correct [NAME]

[NAME]: alright. thank you very much

Eugene K: Is there anything else I can help with?

[NAME]: that's all, thank you

Here is the dimwit response I got 2 days later.
Good Morning [NAME]

I trust you are well :)

Thank you for your email.

Please be advised that the package you are on currently is a 2Meg package charged at R497.00.

In order for your package to be R397.00 you will need to downgrade on the products you have with us.

That means your line will need to be downgraded to a 1 Meg package.

Your package was upgraded to 2Meg package and not downgraded.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if we may be of further assistance.

Warm Regards
Kele

when does this happen ? - i seriously need to plan my way forward from this service that as far as i am concerned just evaporated on the first of this month

It's difficult to compare becuase it really depends on what package you were on. Did you check your ClientZone to see if there was any shaping applied (or what policy you were on depending on the speeds you saw)? I'm assuming you're on Uncapped from the thread here.

I'm told it will be very soon, so you will definitely be able to plan around this. Hopefully I'll have good news very shortly to share with everyone :)

Sorry to hear about this incident - I'll check this ticket out to see what exactly happened here.

In your ticket, I only looked at the product and not the billing aspect. I can appreciate that our guys did not give you the best service, but they are always genuinely doing their best to do what's best for our clients.

Will respond to you by PM with more feedback on this :(
