See, the international download is what it should be but the local download is only being affected a bit?
Hi Afriman / Afrigirl, So we all know that Telkom is dropping the price of IPC... can we expect a price reduction??
Secondly I not sure if this was already brought up but I am in Cape Town, Southern Suburbs, on a 10mb uncapped bundle and I would like to know why the max I can get out of my 10mb uncapped is about between 250kbps - 400kbps when downloading via bittorrent. I notices this change about a month ago, I used to get speeds of between 800kb/s to 1mb/s, I really thinking of dropping my ADSL bundle because the service has dropped. Could you please advise why this is so. oh and before you say its my pc its not because I didn't change anything on my pc, also my brother in law who is living a few roads away is on the same bundle and he said he is experiencing the same, he also used to get the same speed as I did as above
Read above regarding the price reduction.
For the past month or so, Afrihost has had to apply shaping to control the influx of users. This shaping is possibly why you are experiencing slow downs in your downloads.
So because they got more users the service we used to get went down because we didn't really get shaped... why don't Afrihost just get more capacity and in this way will keep you customer experience top-notch
I Love being in Durban. I can't remember the last time I was shaped on my Afrihost uncapped line. Good work guys, more than happy with the performance of the account.![]()
+1 in the Cape![]()
Same here in CPT, things seems to be good. My p2p downloads are shaped but everything else is OK.
I was shaped today for the first time in 2 months due to the IPC. What shaping policy are you on? (Like percentage wise)

Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P
Getting this for p2p:

EDIT: I'm on 10mbps Uncapped.
How long have you been shaped like this, as I am unshaped again in Cape Town?

I'm shaped almost all the time when I check. I noticed that over weekends it's not shaped. Also, my usage is quite high, I have a few extra people at my place visiting ATM and they are constantly on the net. The usage over the next two months is going to be especially high due to this. I don’t mind the shaping of downloads and p2p, as long as normal browsing and streaming is not affected.
Regarding the Telkom line upgrades,
If I am currently on a 4Mbps uncapped bundle, will my data also be upgraded to 10Mbps or just my actual line speed? And if so will there be any costs involved? Have seen previous posts on this but I'm slightly confused.
