Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

The data will not be upgraded (yet, it may possibly happen in the future). However, your line speed will upgrade to 10Meg!

So I will not actually be benefiting as my line is already 4/10Mbps?

[-]Unfortunately not :/[/-] Wait, your line will be able to downgrade to 4mbps (seeing that you have a 4mbps data account) and you will save R150p/m

Regarding the Telkom line upgrades,

If I am currently on a 4Mbps uncapped bundle, will my data also be upgraded to 10Mbps or just my actual line speed? And if so will there be any costs involved? Have seen previous posts on this but I'm slightly confused.

The line will be upgraded with Telkom, we're still chatting as so how to roll out further from that.

You're shaping policy working wonders again tonight, preventing me from using my new PC as Windows 8.1 has to download updates before it'll finish the install if you're connected to the net during installation.

Been sitting on Getting Updates... for like 30 min already.

GG Afrihost/MTN classifying Windows updates as a non-realtime service.

@ afriGuy My line is a dead. If I test my line from the ClientZone, it says exchange port failure due to power loss????

I'm online with my 8ta 3G atm...

So the one night I decide to game a bit and there is major rubber banding and it's sloooow... even opening pages are slow :(

Could this be part of the problem that was spoken about earlier? (Saw something online earlier today that said something is broke and had to be turned off for maintenance).

http://www.speedtest.net/result/3109670629.png (not bad results if only I was not on a 10mbps bundle, which I am, so actually very crap results)

Try downloading Windows Updates when your account is shaped.

Was posted quite a few pages back that there were a few people seeing this and I never saw any response from Afri* that it was sorted and still doesn't seem to be sorted.

Sorry about this :(
Our network is seeing less traffic at the moment so shaping is easing slowly but surely.

Haven't noticed low speed myself, but they have claimed that os updates should not be shaped. Guess it depends on some things

Hi,

How is Afrihost's shaping policy? I just changed my package from a 75GIG capped to an uncapped account a few minutes ago and it's already saying - Shaping Policy: 50% Download/ 50% P2P

I'm on a 4meg line with Telkom. I am currently downloading at about 30KB/s - 50KB/s.

I also had terrible download speeds earlier today with my capped account. Hoping that this is something that will be fixed soon, cause so far I'm kinda regretting my decision changing to uncapped.

EDIT: Download speeds increased a little but still not great..

Just wondering about the shaping policy.. Is it normally this high @ 50%
Never been on a uncapped before so not sure if this is high or not..

Windows installed, now it's trying to download a 1.6MB update, been sitting on 45% for a while, I'm assuming it keeps timing out.

Windows Phone app and software updates also constantly time-out if your account is shaped.

The IPC upgrades had better come soon, the 25th is fast approaching

Afriman, my issues reported earlier on page 462 (Link: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...back-(Pt2)?p=11562989&viewfull=1#post11562989 ) ... was that due to shaping?

How do I read the shaping on my line in my account, never noticed it before ... it is 12.5% download and 6.25% P2P ... does that mean 6.25% of line speed, i.e. 625Kbps (+- 63kb/s download)? If so ... I wasn't even "lucky" enough to hit that this past weekend!

My line is still giving issues, where for example, half way through a speedtest it just dies, while the first half is excellent ... I have tried PM'ing AfriGuy, but other then the reply last week I got asking for more info (which I gave), I got no further replies!

And no, it has not yet been resolved ... luckily it's faster than the 2kb/s I was getting:

My NZB Downloader right now:
Clipboard01.jpg

Keep in mind I'm on a 10Mbit line ... so this is 2% of my current line speed.

Don't even get me started on streaming!

As mentioned ... my folks are very unhappy, and Afrihost has until the end of the week before I pull the plug unfortunately.

This all began in the last 2 - 3 weeks, so I'm not sure what changed.

Regards

Itai

While you guys are still chatting... you know how AfriHost gives its customers free data (free gift), maybe AfriHost can dish out free data upgrades for a month to all those users that have had some unpleasant experiences with shaping on this forum.. just an idea that would be awesome :D

At the moment, the shaping is horrendous.
This was me at 10:30PM on a Friday night:

Upgraded my package from 2 to 4 this morning, noticed on the 2 the shaping was set at 25% download when I went to 4 it was at 18.8% so there is a definite limit regarding the shaping, but I leave all but the most urgent downloads till about midnight, besides Afrihost is an honest company and doesn't try hide anything, that's also why I support them :p
