How is shaping in Jozi these days? My line got upped to 4Mbps, thinking of moving from 2Mbps Business to 4Mbps Gold uncapped.

Shyte, still. Pretty much a solid 18.8/6.25 during daylight hours in the week, and weekends dropping to 50/25 often and for extended periods.

Afrihost FTW
Changed from mweb to Afrihost, and could not be happier - I encourage everyone to join up with you guys
Thanks for the great service & stable network
Are you watching the same streams?
We've seen very mixed reports about Twitch - some of their channels are very bandwidth hungryEven 10Mbps accounts battle to stream certain streams as it seems to want to use 900KB/s.
I would understand that if my line was maxing out and it still stuttered. The problem is my line is using a quarter of its speed and the streams are lagging. i.e. On my 4mb line the streams never go above 120kbps (monitoring using performance monitor [dunno how accurate that is]) where I would expect them to get to 300-400kbps like my downloads and torrents do (the things that are shaped are going faster then the realtime).
Perhaps it is just an issue with twitch. But as stated I never used to have this problem till these capacity issues etc. May just be a coincidence, In which case I apologise for all vitriol spewed so far![]()
Are you able to replicate the buffering on other streaming services?
Ive tried testing now on Ustream.com 720p (+-200kbps)
new.livestream.com 720p (+-180kbps)
streaming speedtest at http://streamingmediahosting.com/support/speed_test (+-60kbps)
twitch.tv 720p (+-120kbps)
Normal speedtests and downloads show (380-390kbps).
Updating Java as I read there was an issue with twitch and old java versions. Will update.
Update: Updated Java to latest version and twitch performance has improved drastically. up to 200kbps from 100 as soon as I refreshed after update.
If anyone else is having twitch issues and havent updated their java give it a try. Ill see how it performs at the 6pm-12pm timeframe when it normally has a major issue.
Hey Guys, does anyone know if telkoms adsl availability checker is working correct? Coz i just checked my current area and it says it's unable to determine speed. And two other places close by which say Service: Not available in green text, and max speeds in those areas are 10mbps. Any ideas?
Okay everyone. Ive created a tool to help people run diagnostics on their internet. Running it once will give you everything you need to post on the forum. It is not something that needs to be installed - you just download and run.

Use it, don't use it, I dont really mind. But this may help new forumites who arnt really that technologically connected as of yet.

It can be a bit of a hit and miss at times.
Drop me a PM with your number and I'll see what your line can sync to![]()
Very useful, but the local speedtest does not seem to work for me.
Really... uhm - see if you can download: ftp://ftp.saix.net/pub/apache/cocoon/2.2/cocoon-2.2.0.zip
