Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Heavily shaped at the moment and this after a week of the best connection I've had since joining Afrihost.

Sorry to hear this :( What area are you in?
We're seeing higher shaping in the North - this should ease tonight though.

What really bugs me is how the shaping is always ridiculously extreme. If the network is congested then surely 10-20% shaping should be enough to bring it back under control. Yet right now my P2P downloads are slowed by 94%. Afrihost is either flying for me or slow as hell. Never seems to be any middle ground.

This shouldn't be the case, the speeds should adjust to the percentages of shaping being applied.
What's your line looking like after hours?

Too early today, things were flying until yesterday. Late evening things got better (not back to full speed though) and then this morning it's locked at 12-14kb/s and usenet can't even get going at all.

Shaping is currently 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

Hi Afri*.

Any more information on the new price implementation? I still don't see the 4mb option in my client zone and I have confirmed with Telkom that my DSL line is now set to 10mb profile - which does not help as my dslam is limited to 4mb.

Getting close to billing cycle and I refuse to pay you more...again. Please provide a workable solution to this ASAP please.

Anyone?

They will make it public when they have any info. They have mentioned that they will not adjust their data pricing until Telkom has completed the line upgrades.

Their prices are already adjusted and any new customer signing up will be paying the new price.

I want to be able to just set my line speed to 4mb to match the product and pricing being currently advertised.

I am unable to do as an existing customer.

It has now got nothing to do with Telkom's upgrades anymore. The clientzone does not reflect the current products being advertised on the Afrihost website. That is my problem. And i would like a solution before I get charged R100 more than I should be....which happened in December and which I accepted as they were just switching over with these upgrades. There is no excuse for over billing again without giving a workable solution to align my product with the price being advertised.

Ok, so currently you are on the "Fastest ADSL" option and want to downgrade to the "Faster ADSL" option? I can't really say since I have 1Mbps uncapped and there's no downgrading available.

Side note: I just saw in clientzone that my line has been upgraded to 2Mbps, just need to get the router to sync that high.

Do I need to restart my router for it to sync higher or will it happen by itself?

Router should auto sync at the highest possible rate.

And yes, I was on the 4mb data with the 4/10mb line. Now my line has been made 10mb flat after Telkom upgrades. And I obviously would like to pay the new R597 and not the old R697 which I currently am. To do this I need to be able to set my line to 4mb. Clientzone does not offer me this choice. Which I feel a is an oversight from Afrihost as new customers won't have this problem.

I see where you're going. Currently I can upgrade via clientzone to 4Mbps line for 279pm, but you can't downgrade from 10Mbps. Have you checked clientzone recently to see if it's been made available? Also have you spoken to someone on live chat about it? Should be able to do that without any difficulties.

That is the next step yes :D

Windows Phone app updates are completely broken now, large app downloads just continuously time out and small apps start but time out after less than 1MB. Updating via my 3G WiFi router is working fine.

It seems as if the reps aren't very active on the forum at this time, I would suggest all problems/queries be pointed towards live chat support or via social media. Remember that the social media team will also not be available for some time during the holidays.
