Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Do you have a ref# I can look at?

Pm'd the ticket id..

I think the issue we're having here is, you guys don't understand how much of a reliance Diablo 3 has on the server. Everything and i mean EVERYTHING is done server-side, which is why shaping a required 25kB/s streaming connection with the server to something silly like 10kB/s has a huge impact on the games latency.

Something minute like breaking a barrel is even processed server-side. What happens when you're attacking 50+ monsters, twice a second? the AI actions/reactions alone is alot of data that need to be conveyed to my game client... nevermind damage calculations and effects like explosions and shattering, stuns/immolation/critical hits etc. ALL of this is calculated by the game server and transmitted to our game client for rendering.

If you understand how the game was developed, you would understand why we're saying throughput is impacting our latency. The only time my uncapped account is unusable for Diablo 3 is when i'm on 12.5% p2p shaping, because my account is a 1meg account, it completely breaks the games playability as 12.5% of 1meg is not sufficient for the game client to render effects as it hasn't received all the data required to do so, in a timely manner.

Go watch a youtube video @ 10kB/s... see all that buffering and stalling? Yeah, thats how the game plays @ 12.5% p2p shaping on a 1meg account...

Ye so I tried my free 1GB. It run's at full speed straight away on Youtube. My uncapped that's mean't to have 100% real time is just buffering at half speed. Fix this please.

I need to look at comparison results and run some troubleshooting, the shaping isn't broken.
Please PM me a bit more info.

I'm sure a few guys around the office play D3, I'll run some follow ups to see what can be done here.

Same issue, I got the uncapped specifically for streaming use.

Not too bad for international.
Is all your streaming poor or just on certain sites?

Nope only on Netflix and only with AH uncapped and even then only when you guys have your shaper running. As soon as the quality drops and I get buffers I head over to client zone and I see shaping applied. I then switch to WA uncapped and Netflix goes back to DVD quality.

So I can only assume that either it is Cape Town IPC issues and it only affects your uncapped accounts or 2 that your shaper doesn't include traffic coming from Netflix as realtime streaming and classifies it as downloads or something.

Like I mentioned I have tried with various account both capped and uncapped and it is only the uncapped AH that I am having issues with. As soon as I do get buffering I immediately switch between all my accounts to see which one it affects, I always come back full circle to the AH uncapped.

This account is great for literally everything else I want to do except Netflix streaming.

Good to hear, I shall be cancelling my account and switch back as soon as my waiting period is over. Then if all goes well on the normal 10mbps ADSL, then I shall move up to 20mbps VDSL.

South is looking pretty good. We're definitely seeing much less shaping, and unshaping must faster in the evenings. Great throughput on realtime for Uncapped as far as our testing shows :)

Chat we shall :)

... week 24/7 on 12.5 % is not broken ? I did less this month than 4mb uncapped users and yet I get shaped ?

Shouldn't be the case, we are definitely unshaping after hours.
Remember we're still tweaking and tuning the additional IPC capacity - it isn't always an instant "added data, let's go crazy" type situation :)

so whats after hours ? 12-5am ?

this is yesterday's 1 file that downloaded at around 4am

err.jpg

and like I said my total usage for the month of june 300gb up & download where 60% of it was streaming/games/teamspeak/youtube other 100gb was downloads on nntp.

is there a issue with international traffic ? this may be a reason to why

I'm very disappointed to report that the aggressive shaping is still happening. I'm sitting at 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P at almost 9pm on a Friday night. Surely this hour constitutes as 'after hours'. I'm really hoping the shaping in the North eases up over the weekend.

I was really excited about the IPC upgrade, but after 2 weeks, its back to where we were while we were waiting for additional IPC a few months ago. The Afrihost home uncapped accounts aren't exactly cheap, so I'm expecting more out of it.

I'm also having streaming issues at the moment. Youtube just buffers like crazy on 360p, and even Hearthstone is lagging!

And you know what, I use a friend's uncapped account from a different ISP, and Youtube streams fine, and my gaming experience is flawless. So its is not my line, and its not the exchange!

Pull up your socks Afrihost!

Also getting shaped to doer and gone - 12.5/6.25 1:27pm in PE.
Have not even done any torrents - this is normal use - last did torrenting nearly 2 weekends ago.
I thought we are not shaped after hours?

Received a message from Afriman that they are testing the networks limits so we will be shaped to hell until they finish doing this. He said it will take a few days and not over the weekend, witch is a lie.. And business hours aren't from 8am to 12pm.. Somethings up.

Not over the weekend eh? I cannot get more than 140kbps on 10mbps account.I have to switch to my capped account just to get a direct download done.

This is utter ... not sure how to express how annoyed I am in text.
