Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Not over the weekend eh? I cannot get more than 140kbps on 10mbps account.I have to switch to my capped account just to get a direct download done.

This is utter ... not sure how to express how annoyed I am in text.

I agree completely, upgraded my 4mb account with axxess to 10mb today, just to get home and see that a 200mb update will take me 3hours ( 20kb/s ). Definitely not the best first impression .. I've done 23GB of traffic over the last 15 days, is it normal to get throttled this hard on that amount of usage ?

Fortunately Afrihost and Axxess do not throttle traffic - they shape.
Apparently the IPC in the South has been fully upgraded, but they are "testing" first.
You will notice that realtime services run super fast but Downloading anything not

well, up until a few months ago, didn't have issues...then the shaping became horrible.

To be honest, I have had issues with realtime services as well in the past months. Now it seems fine. But that won't install the bunch of packages on my fresh install of ArchLinux.

You know gaming is extremely important to me, as well as being able to download a torrent, file, update, whatever, when I need it.

10 MbBusiness.

I cannot justify the cost of the 20Mb Business Account as I don't need my data that urgently, but the 20Mb VDSL just isn't worth it for my streaming needs. Not that the Business is as good as other ISPs, it's just more consistant. So using a 10Mb business again.

172GB for the month (10MB account, and only because most of that traffic has come via SSH)
Shaping: 12.5% and 6.5% (all day, EVERY DAY till 02:00, from 06:00)

Funny how it seems that since the "upgrade" (YEAH RIGHT!), the "full speed" download window is getting smaller...
OVER-SOLD.... even my prior 4MB MWEB account gave me at least 450GB a month before throttling... and now I have a 10MB account barely reaching 200GB???? :wtf:

@AH - when you shaped consistently, at the same rate, every day from 06:00 till 02:00, THAT IS THROTTLING.... no matter how you try to justify, or spin it!

Sounds like a loss of synch issue, depends on how the line behaves. Does latency increase as well or is just throughput affected. If there's congestion, you might get great speed for a few minutes and then slowly degrade until congestion "settles". Latency will be horrible though.

Latency seems relatively stable, so only throughput was affected. Improved a bit on Thursday/Friday.

I am unable to get speeds to even do over 100 gb. I am literally getting about 10% of what I am paying for.

I only manage that because I download ALL my files to my VPS in the US, then I have to download via SSH with FileZilla onto my PC. The speeds vary between full and 60%.... this is only twice a week for about 3 hours at a time... the rest of the time it is used for basic email, browsing, and the occasional Youtube (which buffers on anything remotely close to HD content).

Think I'm going back to webafrica seeing as there 10mb bundle same price and their gaming latency is a lot better.

Tired of this shaping **** and gaming has absolute no priority in getting games off there shaping system.

Is it possible to switch from a bundled 4Mbps uncapped package to a capped 50Gb package without having to pay for next month's uncapped?

I know the billing run has passed, but I don't want to cancel with AH, just change my connection. [Presently I have a 4Mbps uncapped + ADSL bundled package] For July onwards, I want to use a capped 50Gb package and stop the uncapped package. Is it possible to change this before July hits us, without having to pay for both uncapped and capped in July?

It seems that at any given month we use less than 100Gb data, so a capped bundle (50+50) would make more sense as the speed will be proper whenever I actually want to connect, and it costs less than uncapped.

Nope. I did this also just before the 25th. I also use roughly 100 gb a month. This month I only managed 36gb so far. So decided was not worth it for uncapped.

You had to jinx it. I was unshaped, and now back to the 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P hellhole.

I think this shaping has something to do with the uncapped accounts. Maybe a ton of people are trying to finish up their cap before next month starts, and its causing strain on Afrihost. And since Uncapped users are second-class citizens, we suffer so that Afrihost doesn't fall over

Nope everything was fine on my side, was streaming rugby/soccer and twitch, youtube included everything was fine.

I had a bad time with streaming as well. I was getting buffering issues on 240p videos on youtube. Realtime services were definitely affected. Maybe the IPC upgrades didn't fix anything?

Streaming on my side was fine. Watched Netflix the whole day yesterday.
