10:40pm and still shaped to 10% while you do your silly network testing.

WTF Afrihost. W.T.F.

Shaping starts to be relieved after 10pm, but it depends on demand. So if there is still a high level of demand, we can't unshape as much or as quickly as we'd like :(

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to know what is the best software to monitor the bandwidth of the devices on my network. WiFi and wired devices. Specifically I would like to know how much bandwidth is my Apple TV using when I am using Netflix or Hulu.

You should be able to get details using WireShark. It's a little technical but once you get the hang of it, it gives you a lot of useful data. It should identify each connecting device by MAC address.

I was up at 1am last night, and the shaping was still at 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P. I really hope after the testing is done, the shaping won't be this aggresive. Before Cape Town got its IPC upgrade, I rarely got shaped. I'll be awfully sad if this is the new normal.

I will say that the Warcraft ping was good last night. I was getting a green status most of the time. The youtube speed seems a bit better too. Not too much buffering unless I go 720p.

It really depends on demand. If there is still heavy demand for bandwidth, then the network till dynamically shape for the best performance.

hearing that realtime gaming and streaming was good is encouraging though, that is the main priority at the moment.

Alright,

After being double-billed yet AGAIN by AfriHost, I've decided to move to another ISP. Your accounts department have absolutely no clue what they are doing. My question is, if my Acc is currently credited with money, how do I get that cash back if I want to terminate my services? This will be the last month with AH. Afriman?

Really sorry to hear that this has happened :(
Would you mind dropping me a PM with your account info so I can see what's gone wrong here.

Can anyone tell me if it is worth it to move my dsl line to afrihost? I considering it because of savings.

Your accounting system and staff are absolutely useless and need to be drawn against a wall and shot.

I have repeatedly asked them to cancel the debit order on my one account as I am paying by credit card. Now I am getting emails saying Afrihost wants to terminate my account because the debit order has bounced for 5 months and account in arrears but I have statements proving my account is settled because I paid with my credit card. Sort this out now!

Also they are charging me admin fees that were not included in the price on all your marketing material. I am paying R697/mnth for a 4MB business line but they are charging me up to R750/month. I am NOT paying hidden fees that are not included. Either update your website to include admin fees or don't charge me hidden costs.

I'm still here, struggling to stream 720p Youtube. I wrote a response 2 days ago. I'm still waiting.

Is anyone on a 4mbit having issues watching 720p Youtube? I ask, because maybe Youtube is working with some new BS streaming algorithm? Vimeo seems to max the line fine.

My opinion is definitely. Aside from the whole "all products under one umbrella" aspect, which is vey convenient, the savings on bundles are really significant. For me personally, it's pretty convenient to just log stuff for my line in ClientZone and just let the guys upstairs sort it out for me. I hate being on hold for ages. Not when there is still so much Breaking Bad to watch (yes, I'm about 5 years too late on this trend, but better late than never)

I'm sorry to hear this. Payment details can be updated directly in ClientZone, and you can move your products from the old payment method to a new one.

We do also mentioned escalating admin and reconnection fees in our terms and conditions and we only bill these when there have been multiple bounced payments over a period of time.

Unfortunately I am not sure that I can reverse a termination notice, but you can PM me and I'll look into. In most cases, the Accounts department decision is final unless there are other circumstances at play.

YouTube is definitely not being shaped or treated differently. Do lower quality streams work without any problems?

Yes 480p works, but that isn't why I'm on a 4mbit Home account. Home Uncapped are glorified Youtube accounts and I can't even get that from it now :erm:

jip mines working fine 720p and 1080p and my account is being shaped as seen on client zone, but still youtube is fine

That is how it should be working :)

If you're not running any other services at the same time, then YouTube should have full throughput on your account and latency should be normal. Can you post any traces so I can see what your general latency is like?

Well when I watch 720p on Youtube, my line usage will not go higher than 2mbit. But on Vimeo I'm seeing the full 3.6mbit. So...BUT this issue only happens on certain clips. So I wonder if it's a Youtube issue. Which is why I asked if other people on a 4mbit were having issues.

I'd definitely like to run further tests. Maybe you can PM me some of the YouTube links so I can test them as well on a standard 4Mbps account.

Thanks for the info. What is the turn around time to transfer the line? I currently on 50gb package. When would be best time to put in request so I not double billed.... telkom already charge me for this month I think.
