Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

By the way, according to the site, SSH is considered a real-time service... yet even on my BUSINESS UNCAPPED, I can only download backups off my VPS at 700kB/s at the moment.

My Dad's Standard Uncapped 10MB is shaped to ****, and only manages 300kB/s! Explain to me where exactly the priority is right now, huh?

I AM A BUSINESS UNCAPPED USER, TOO... I SHOULD BE GETTING PRIORITY OVER EVERYONE ELSE!

... but alas, I have to start my new month with another fight.... like I don't have work, or anything better to do - only to be told, "We need to test your line further.... we need more information...blah blah blah".

This is 2 weeks later, on 2 supposedly different products, and yet, both with similar root problems:

1. poor management
2. not enough bandwidth
3. no resolution

WOW.... Even MWEB, with their terrible service and poor communication skills, didn't degrade the product that badly?

Please AFRIHOST.... don't make me put you in the category of useless, money-grabbing, greedy, etc., etc, ISP's....

I just want the level of service and product performance I enjoyed prior to last Sunday, and the 2 months before. Is that too much to ask???? I should hope not.... I AM PAYING FOR IT

It's really weird that your VPS is not getting full speed? What's the upload on it? It would be great if you could post a speedtest from the server.

Also - business has no shaping, but check that protocol prioritization is turned off under clientzone.

With regards to the Home Uncapped, new capacity is on it's way so the shaping should ease up soon :) With regards to support staffing, I think they are aware of the issue - and are attending to it!

Firstly - MWEB are THE"' money-grabbing, greedy,'' ISP and quite frankly they or rather their new Chief Executive Idiot is either a YES man or poor businessman - not sure dont care. Afrihost has a way to go yet before they get there.

Secondly - You deserve good service - something South Africa in general is lacking BIG TIME, albeit, I am relatively new to AH, and have not had cause to complain as yet. In defence of AH they have admitted their service is wanting, so this bodes well.

Finally - Indeed you are paying for a service - a business service if I am not mistaken - and should get better attention. I intend to go this route and so will be watching your posts and responses with KEEN interest.

Good luck - keep us posted please.

I actually have a 10MB Business Uncapped which cannot download torrents at more than 6kB/s at the moment.
My other account is being shaped at 12.5% and 6.5% ALL DAY, EVERDAY.... This morning, the new month started on a good note at 07:00 with the account being unshaped again... but that didn't last long. At 10:00, after downloading 4.7GB, it was, AND STILL IS, shaped again at 12.5% and 6.5%.

Strangely, both accounts have been sub-par since 15:00 last Sunday... and have remained so into the new month.
I have received on response to tickets on the Business account, and no hint of a resolution, and a whole lot of back and forth on the standard Uncapped account, only to be back at, "...please restart your router.... we need to run more tests.... " and every other stock-standard BS you can think of.

NOW... I deal with this kind of thing on a regular basis with Telkom, as I do support and repairs. When I logged BOTH calls initially, I requested that the physical ports be changed. I requested this, as I know that there is an issue with older equipment on the Milnerton and Blaauwberg exchanges. 2 weeks later, and I am being asked to run ping and trace route tests??? WTF????
I have done these and proved where the fault lies - the problem os between Telkom and Afrihost's IPC, NOT MY LINE.

What more can I do? What else would you like me to provide????

AND YET.... New month, relief for 3 hours.... and then back to the same s***t after downloading only 4.7GB on a 10MB Uncapped account.

With regards to the Business Account, This reeeaalllyyy sounds like an issue with protocol prioritization! But it's strange cause you say it's off :( Do you have any firewalls enabled?

Also - Home Uncapped down in the cape is really not great at the moment in terms of being unshaped 24/7, as I think Afriman mentioned there was a surge in usage for the past 2 weeks and they are still waiting for the upgrades.

I'm in the same boat, also shaped - but as I've mentioned, it doesn't bother me. I can see why, if important business things need to be done, it would be irritating - however, I believe that is why the business accounts were created.

I don't know what else you could do? Just to confirm - you have chatted to Afriman/Afriguy/Afrigirl right?

The VPS speeds vary at different time of the day.... there is more than enough bandwidth and speed on the VPS. The VPS peaks at a transfer rate of over 125MB/s, so I doubt the VPS is at fault... Surely my crappy little 1MB/s (transfer speed) line isn't even gonna make it take a deeper breath?

Haha okay, I get your point :P located here or int? Sorry - just trying to figure out where the slow speeds are coming from.

Server is on the East Coast of the USA.... They just did an upgrade 2 months ago... ping to all our hosted websites is about 220ms (any time of day), and the cPanel / WHM interaction is lightning fast. As I have mentioned, these issues on the Business Uncapped have also popped up since last Sunday 15:00. There were no issues at all before that. It seems more than coinsidence that both accounts are experienced problems from the same day, at exactly the same time.

Now, I cannot download torrents at all... no matter what site I use, even bitmetv, even local sites :(

Okay? Just wondering, why are you using home uncapped then, cause to be honest - if I had a business uncapped product - I wouldn't even touch my home uncapped one :D

I have the Business account for myself, and the standard one for my Dad.
But, as you know, I handle both... and from 2 different locations. I have tested both, from 3 locations in Milnerton, Sunningdale and Monague Gardens.

I also have an MWEB 1GB Capped account, and now was given a 1GB AH test account.

To be honest, and not to have a go at the server - but a problem arising at the exact same time for what appears to be only you sounds to me like a server issue/local issue :( Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Afriman will try his best to see if there is anything his side at fault.

I know I've asked this a million times, but is Protocol Prioritization turned off in the new clientzone?

If you could give us the results of speed tests from the VPS on the capped accounts that would be great as it will allow us to isolate the issue :)

It is off, and has been off from the moment I got the account. I manage the server (VPS) and there are no prblems there. And, just to be clear, I am not the only one with this problem in Cape Town, and as I said, these accounts have been tested in 3 different locations with the same results.

I know that when I signed up both accounts, there were issues at the exchange, and both ports had to be changed. My friend down the road had the same issues when he moved to AH, and also had to have the port changed - NOT RESET, CHANGED.

Okay cool - well, I have no further suggestions tonight :D hopefully you get this sorted ASAP :)

FYI, when I pm AfriMan, he told me there is nothing wrong from the AH side, and they would have to do more tests on the line to justify requesting a port change from Telkom.

:)also "going like a bat out of hell". Anyone know what's happened? Hope this is the upgrade we've been waiting for. One of my downloads has been running for 9 days and I was considering dumping it, but lets see what happens.

I wish, but I doubt it.
I think the demand is just low enough atm.
The guys were probably having a big party last night and are still recovering down in Cape Town.
As soon as they all wake up, we will be shaped down to the familiar 18.8% and 6.5% figures.

:)
