Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I'm a new customer. I've used 22GB over the last 5 days, it says shaping is 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P ATM. Is this based on usage or is it a capacity problem on the network? On a 4meg uncapped package.

Currently there is not enough capacity down in the Cape - however new capacity is on its way :)
 
The fact is, you can claim it's not usage based, but people who have done more are being shaped more.
Easy way to decrease demand, is to STOP signing up new customers, especially if you can't support the clients you already have.
Nevermind what AH "claims", my account is shaped ALL DAY LONG NOW, and has been since Sunday 15:00.
Oddly enough, my Business Uncapped has not been able to download torrents at more than 6kB/s since the same time Sunday.... coincidence???? Seems like specific user rate limiting!

..... oh, I'm sorry... "network management" :p

What about me getting what I paid for?????

By the way, I am an IT specialist and network consultant... I also so hosting, so I am well aware of how equipment works, and what configurations are possible...

If you only have a limited amount of bandwidth, you need to plan your utilisation correclty, and NOT over-sell your network. If you plan poorly, you can't say your users/clients are over-utilising, degrade the level of service and effectively penalise them for that.

...just saying... call a spade a spade ;)

Dunno if I have already said this :D But please switch off protocol prioritization in the new clientzone, under the business account. PP Shaped P2P traffic, but is voluntary on business accounts.
 
Feel sorry for me. Had uncapped for 3 days. Downloaded 5 gig in 3 days. Now I'm shaped at 18% download 6% p2p.

Oh and afrihost your claim of 100% realtime service is never shaped is bull****. Netflix is a joke right now. Never had this issue on your capped data

Netflix isnt really a properly supported service, as it requires workarounds to work - therefore creating unpredictable circumstances which may cause shaping :-(

Try UnoDNS :D I think a lot of users have had success with that :P

Yes I use unodns, have been for 2 years. Afrihost said they dont shape it so then ill consider that to be a supported service. I'm having a moan about it. my tracert show it is not latency it's shaped and they say it's not so whose the little liar :)

Unless it's rhis capacity issue in the south. Which shouldn't be the customer's problem.

This is strange though, as when I phone, I am number 36 in the queue. This must be indicative of an issue? If so, please put up a network notice...

I have asked that someone phones me back, yet I have not received any calls yet....

What a bad start to changing ISP....

No issues at the moment as far as I am aware,

Have you confirmed that your account has been created? Should take about 5 minutes after being verified :)

I am still having issues. My Business Uncapped will not download torrents faster than 6kB/s, and my Dad's Uncapped 10MB is shaped to hell ALL THE TIME NOW. All tickets are still open, and nobody wants to take resposibility. All I want is for both lines to have their physical ports changed, but nothings is being done. I am told that MORE tests need to be done to justify such a request.

It is now 22:00 on a Friday night - I am still shaped on 10MB Uncapped:

Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P


It is now 22:00 on Friday night - Max. torrent speed on 10MB Business Uncapped:
5kB/s with 85 seeds and 212 peers CONNECTED.... not available.

So much for, "we only shape in the day when there is a high demand"

As zertop stated, you need to switch off protocol prioritisation in clientzone if you plan to our use p2p on a business account.

Yup, got the mail with details and all. Tried a few times, will try again soon.

Why would there be 36 people in the queue though? Is this and the 40 minute (R100 from cellular) waiting times something I should get used to?

They are in the process of hiring new support staff :)

Hey there, Thanks.

So, I got my account name and password sent via email, typing those details into my router see the internet light turn from green (openweb) to red. So simply, my login details do not seem to work. (Yes, I am doing it right :D )

I sent a support ticket, so if you work at AfriHost you should see it. Please have a look for me... If it needs activation, I have sent my ID already.

So has my company, the thing is though that your client base would surely grow faster than you can hire people, so they will always be fighting this battle. 40 minutes is a bit high though... This is getting close to Telkom insanity..... :D

I signed up at 09:00, so I take it that I have to wait until they see my ID... oi.......

According to their mails I can use the ADSL immediately. I would surely think that once you sign up, your account should work straight away? Does anyone know how I can get through to them without having to wait 40 minutes in the queue?
