Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Can you try staying logged into your cap account for a while (in the router), like an hour, then log back into the uncapped account and repeat the test?

EDIT: Make a note of your uncapped IP and make sure it's different after the hour.

Will do, but can only later today.

Home uncapped 4Mbps Eastern Cape

International Speedtest
Downloaded 20.0 megabytes in 3:11 seconds. (106.86 KB/s)

Local Speedtest
Downloaded 15.6 megabytes in 40 seconds. (397.39 KB/s)

AH capped account:

International Speedtest
Downloaded 20.0 megabytes in 49 seconds. (413.75 KB/s)

Local Speedtest
Downloaded 15.6 megabytes in 39 seconds. (409.28 KB/s)

Some pretty respectable speeds there on the uncapped :) It seems that NZB might be the slowdown as the international download test looks about right :) 12.5% * 4Mbps = ~50Kbps (You get 100KBps)

Explain again pls?
How you get to the conclusion that NZb is the problem, as that same NZb achieved 424kB/s on a capped account?

I don't understand the references to 12.5%.?

Sorry - thats not what I was implying :P I was just saying that it appears that Nzb/P2P (Not the servers, but the shaping of it) is where the slowness is coming from, as HTTP downloads are running fine :) If your P2P is shaped at 6.25%, HTTP would be shaped at 12.5%

Ah okay, now I understand.
Yes, afaic determine Nttp are classified as P2P on the AH network.
I haven't tested Http(yet).

I worked on P2P and at 6.25% shaping, but I was receiving speeds of about 3%
That is why I'm saying that I'm either throttled or shaping is much more severe on P2P than the indicated figures in the clientzone.

Also, I do not agree with this info:

If your P2P is shaped at 6.25%, HTTP would be shaped at 12.5%

My http shaping is at 18.8% and my P2P is at 6.5%

Oh! Usually my HTTP goes down to 12.5 when on 6.25p2p - then just use 18% for your calculations :)

The tests in the tool are http downloads, so they seem to be reflecting 18.5% correctly - so there must be either more severe shaping/some form of issue with P2P shaping :(

I'll let afriguy answer farther, cause he is more experienced with their own network haha.

Thx for pointing me to your tool.
Will definitely use it a bit more in the future.

It was a big eye opener for me to compare capped vs uncapped ito downloading a 20 meg file.
49 seconds on the capped vs 3:11 (18.8% shaping applied) on home uncapped.
That is a bad ratio any day.

Why then is international affected and local is not. HTTP is HTTP, no matter where it comes from, it still puts a load on the IPC.

Besides, I thought speedtests were not affected by shaping?

That I do not know :/ I think it is due to the fact that it is hosted at the IPC's (Telkom). Those arnt speedtests, they are just downloads which I calculate the time taken and turn it into KBps :)

... and again I'm getting between 10 - 13kB/s on 6.5% p2p Shaping, instead of 26.5kB/s
So unless SABNZBD are reporting incorrect speeds, I'm not getting speeds shapped to 6.25% from AH, but more shaped to 3%.

Those international tracerts look a bit wonky, capped aswell.

They need that upgrade NOW, but how soon is soon, they've been saying "soon" since Jan.

A sign to cancel for now and move on until they get upgraded?

Would it be possible to try a torrent. A legal one of course ;) :D

No but seriously - what do your speeds look like with this: http://releases.ubuntu.com/13.10/ubuntu-13.10-desktop-amd64.iso.torrent

I always seem to get my full speed when downloading that (Or shaped %age speed)

Just wondering - are people still having that twitch issue? 'cause for some reason, I have been able to watch (while shaped) on high quality for the past half hour without any buffering?

Shaped to death on a Saturday night. If that extra bandwidth hasn't arrived by the end of the month I'm going to have to change my package or provider :(

I would move on for now, there are better options.
