I am experiencing incredibly slow speeds on my uncapped 4meg account, but only in very specific circumstances which lead me to believe there is a problem with the shaping on my account.
When browsing in chrome, access to google.co.za and youtube throttle to a fairly consistent 20kbps.
Switch to IE, speeds goes back up to full.
Switch to a different ISP, speed in Chrome shoots up to full.
What's going on Afrihost? This has been an off and on issue for me for the last 2 months.
Hi Razotter, try this http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=15110140
No Shaping applied and yet my mom is struggling to watch videos on youtube on her phone (just has a still image. Doesn't even have to load video) and my torrents keep timing out. If the torrents get above 40kB/s, then its a lot on a 4mb line -_-
Even worse than that I can barely connect with a VPN to do work. I can connect with the VPN but almost nothing will load on the laptop. Then I switch to WebAfrica and everything works fine...
don't warry peeps wait till the end of the month then your internet will be better coz i am canceling my 25 odd accounts then your pain will be over...
Yea.. It's crawling at the moment. I can't break more than 0.2Mbit/s on Youtube...
10MB line..

Thanks Arno, I'll give it a try. For me the real issue though is why should I have to be shifting my traffic into another protocol just to use my net.
This is clearly an issue with Afrihost's QOS/shaping since the problem goes away in other browsers and with other isps. This same issue arises for others as I go back through this thread (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/596703-Afrihost-Uncapped-ADSL-Feedback-(Pt3)?p=15094920&viewfull=1#post15094920), around the 28th of April a number of people complained and yet 30 days later we're still stuck with the issue.
I opened a support ticket with clientzone, got the stock standard "There is no shaping on your line right now, but I'll reset your port just in case". And I've heard nothing since.
I am fast losing my patience, Afrihost.
Just pulled the plug on AH for the second time in a year - tomorrow is 25th - can't do another month like this.
Goodbye and good luck to the rest that is still battling for an 'awesome exeperience' ;-)
So I use Turbocharge. 43mins left. Still not active. Once again Turbocharge just doesn't activate. I await the long chain of PM's where nothing will be done. Like 3 weeks ago.
Are you sure that the Turbocharge has not taken effect. It should only take 5 minutes or so for the change to take effect but as I understand you get a 15 minute grace period added on to each session that you enable.
What is the service you're using to measure if you're being Turbocharged or not?
I've tried both Nvidia driver downloads and sourceforge with mirrors. All run at max speed on the capped free. At 12minutes left, it finally kicked in.
When you cancel your data does it cancel on the 25th or on the 1st?
The data will expire on the last day of the month at 23:59.
So if you submitted a cancellation yesterday, the data will be active until 23:59 31 May 2015![]()
I cancelled a few weeks ago I think, anyways thanks, appreciate it.
