Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

It's a BUSINESS UNCAPPED with no shaping, or throttling applied.
It was working fine until Sunday afternoon... no settings have been changed, and the P2P / shaping option in the clientzone is disabled.

Not cool Afrihost! I decided I would use my remaining turbo charges tonight so I activated it and all good for 2 hours. Then my internet disconnects, router reboots and now all downloads are running like I'm shaped and I still have nearly 2 hours left of turbo charge! Downloads won't go past 15KB/s and torrents stuck at 3KB/s. Speedtests and tracert says everything is perfect but that doesn't change the fact that I have now lost my turbo charge.

I agree fully.
I have a 10MB Uncapped and have been shaped at that level for the last 2 weeks. For me, shaping started at 17:00 every night till 08:30 every morning. I have done 260GB, and as of this past Sunday at 15:00, the line has been shaped ALL THE TIME. Now there is a serious authentication problem at the exchange, and the line has no throughput at all. I left MWEB for Afrihost because of extra speed and cheaper price, but so far, this deal is terrible. I used to average 400GB on a 4MB MWEB Uncapped without a hint of aggressive shaping... speeds would sometimes dip for an hour in the day, but then go back to full speed. Currently, even my 10MB Business ADSL is getting zero throughput on torrents at any time of the day, whereas before this weekend I could download from anywhere I liked at full speed ALL the time.

There definitely seems to be something fishy going on on the Telkom side (as well as Afrihost) :(

EDIT: Turbocharge doesn't work for longer than 10 minutes on my standard 10MB Uncapped account... and I have tried it a few times over this 2 week period, and at different times of the day/night :(

Sorry to see that you're battling here, but it sounds like there could be a few things going wrong. I saw in later posts that you said you've checked that your protocol setting is deactivated.

Can you drop me a PM, so I can make 100% sure that you are unshaped, and then we can check our your Network Test App results together? :(

Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P

It went well for so long...

Remember that we still have upgrades on the way, so shaping shouldn't be quite so harsh for very long. It does look like demand has slowly creeped up recently though :(

Slowly? More like Cape Town realised the Internet existed in very short order :P

What do these figures mean? I signed up yesterday and see my P2P also says 6.25% ATM.

It means that the estimated portion of your line available for shaped services is 6.25% of your full line speed. Basically we prioritise realtime services, and non-realtime services get lesser priority through shaping.

Sorry that this didn't work as it should have. Seeing as we had some problems on our side last night, we may have misallocated your profile in the process and then not unshaped as we should have.

Please PM me and I'll take a look at what may have happened here :(

This is now getting ridiculous... torrent only downloading at 5kB/s ?????? Off a 10MB Business Uncapped???
WTF?

The business 'unshaped' service has gone to pot lately. They also admitted shaping it a few weeks ago when they had a bandwidth issue, so it isn't guaranteed unshaped.

More recently I posted some bad speeds. My 1Meg connection, which normally speeds along at .90Mbps suddenly dropped to around half (I did about 5 speed tests to confirm). When I contacted support, they said 1Meg is not guaranteed to run at full speed! Seriously, their support is getting very arrogant and kinda 'dont care'.

Afriman, I have a 1meg uncapped and a 1gig free account with Afrihost, the 1 meg uncapped account speed test returned .5meg on a 2meg line, 'websites took ages to open' and the free account returned 1.5meg on a 2 meg line, much better response, what may I ask is the reason for this?
