Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Is there something up in the South region ? - I'm in Century City CT area

It is a total crawl here on 2meg line
Especially trying to upload something - 250k image = 10 min to Google drive

Started early this morning - hope it is caused by the load shedding

Something is wrong with my connection. My torrents and downloads are going at full speed yet browsing and youtube is nearly impossible, can't even access client zone. Is reverse shaping even a thing? I'm not sure if I should be happy with this or not.
Here are the Network tool results.

By any chance? Are you uploading while torrenting - if so, limit upload speed to 1KBps in preferences.

I've blocked all uploading on my torrents by default so it's not that but even when I close the torrent client I still have trouble browsing.

Okay... hmm? Your tracerts have high second hops :/ Usually this would indicate a line issue, however it seems that your downloads are fine?

Please would you do:

ping 105.236.8.6 -t

in cmd for +-5min and then post the full results here :)

Getting no replies from that IP, tried pinging google and afrihost instead.

#1: You should definitely be getting a response, as that is the address of your exchange? Wait - are you by any chance running a VPN?

#2: Please run this: http://zertop.com/files/DiagnosticsTool/Windows/Current/diagnostics.exe and post the results here :)

Have AfriMan quit?

AfriMan has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.

Morning all,

Before I answer any messages, just wanna let you know that I'll be away for a couple of weeks on a conference (hopefully to help us provide even better service to all of you). AfriGuy and AfriGirl are going to be around and they are ALWAYS available on PM if you need something urgently.

I'll be setting my mailbox not to accept PM's so that no-one PM's me and doesn't get a reply for two weeks. Please pass the word around if you see anyone battling to reach me.

We are always here to assist. I may have limited access to email, so you can mail [email protected] - but your best bet for assistance is AfriGuy and AfriGirl, who'll be holding the fort while I'm gone.

Stay Awesome :)

Have AfriMan quit?

No, he have gone on a conference

Fully understand, but remember that realtime services aren't affected :)
More capacity should be on the way though. The South region network is looking quite good today, I can only assume it's helped along by the power cuts though :p

You know you keep saying this but I've told you guys time and time again its nonsense.
I have tracerts tests and posts proving realtime is affected due to lack of capacity, particularly evident when shaping is being applied to an account and no latency. And I'm in the South.

Take my word for it, I've been running netflix for two years and I can tell when realtime is not running 100%. Stop misleading customers ffs.

I personally don't really count netflix as a fully supported "real-time service" as it requires workarounds to get it working in South Africa. These workarounds sometimes cause the shaper to mis-categorize the netflix stream data, therefore causing an issue with shaping :/

Hopefully Netflix will be in SA soon, and then we can really get it sorted :D

Come on man. Workarounds play NO part, it's a real time service like any other using the same protocols for streaming.

Edit: Ok depending on the workaround perhaps, but you need to clarify what a workaround is.
I use a DNS, so it will play no part in confusing any shaping rules. So what you claim, holds no weight.

I for one am pretty bleak about this new shaping stuff. I dont even download that much, not more usage than a couple gigs a day, and when I want one specific thing from p2p it crawls along at 20k/sec on a 4mb line with max speed of 430k. I moved from 2mb business for this? First time in years that I actually feel like I'm not getting the great value that I've come to expect from Afrihost...especially since they never dropped their uncapped prices when everyone else did. Not sure if these power outtages have anything to do with it, but I will say that my overall user experience of Afrihost 4mb uncapped has gone from a 9 out 10 down to a 6 out a ten. :\

Has anyone else been ADSL-less since yesterday's load shedding? My internet was active until the load shedding shut down our area. Few hours later the power is back on but no ADSL, the phone dial tone sound is there, but no ADSL. Checked this morning, still nothing. Used the mobile app to 'fix line' and still nada
