Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Giving all of us more Turbocharge will be the same as unshaping us for a short while. If they could do it, they would. The network can't handle it at the moment.

I doubt that we'd use Turbocharge as a means to reward clients. We've done so in the past - but I guess it's a possibility - will make that suggestion.

Then how about shaping the capped users' "free double bandwidth"? At the end of the day they are getting it for "free" so they can't really complain if it gets shaped, right?

We'll never shape capped users - so I think that's a no. We'd be breaking their trust in a major way if we did that - so I would think that's not a direction we'd be looking at :(

I just don't think that its fair for one set of your clients (uncapped home users) to bare all the brunt of the network/IPC difficulties, spread the "love" bro

It's definitely not our intention to punish or discriminate. I think when then network was badly in need of an upgrade, clients on all product could have had a poor experience. With the upgrade, everyone should get a much better experience. Remember that Uncapped is always going to have some degree of shaping, and we'll need to find that balance eventually to ensure that the overall experience is awesome and offers the right value.

Yea, this pretty much confirms the line fault :(

Just a tip - contact your local Telkom office as opposed to the hotline :) Usually gets things done a bit faster :P

Contacted telkom. They got back to me three days later to tell me it is an area issue. And there is no ETR for it. I guess that means I just have to live with the slow net speed for a bit longer.

Area is Wynberg/Ottery Cape town.

Did they say what the issue is? Congestion? I don't see any faults logged for the exchange at the moment on the Telkom noticeboard :(

Which exchange you connecting to?
Wynberg?

Telkom have told me that there are no problems with the Wynberg exchange... well, no open issues that is.

There was an issue on Thursday or Friday, if I recall correctly - but nothing listed currently that I know of.

I am still shaped on my account. This is getting ridiculous and the sweet talk is getting a little thin. Come on Afrihost. Perhaps you should consider rephrasing your "fair usage" policy to swing both ways and in doing so I mean that you should consider what is fair to us uncapped subscribers. Is it "fair" to not be able to "use" a service we pay for?

Peak time is coming to an end slowly, which means that you should start seeing some unshaping.

So, just out of boredom and for my own interest, I checked my Afrihost account a couple of times during the day from work. Didn't see any shaping at all at any point. Yet now, at nearly 7pm, I have this:

Good ol' 18.8/6.25... I've had less time and energy to be concerned over this the last while, but how long has Afrihost been well and truly broken now? 6 months? Longer?

*sigh*

Any notices from Telkom regarding the Somerset West exchange? It's been impossible since the 17th. Lucky to get 20KB/s on 4meg line. They tell me it's congestion, but it doesn't improve in the evening, and it was sudden. One minute it was flying, the next it was as good as dead.

I just the bullet and moved to business about two weeks ago. I have been alot satisfied with my account since then.

Whats with the heavy shaping at this time of night?
18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P

Gauteng, Pretoria

Over 6 months of a crippled product. Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P at 7:30 at night. The off peak window seems to be shrinking. Do I have set my alarm for 2 in the morning to reinstall my OS?

All good here? Like no issues at all?

Been good for the past month, only one issue which lasted about 10 minutes? After which my sync upped from 10019Kbps to 10240Kbps?

So still shaped to death at 8PM, on the so called UPGRADED East IPC. Yeah I won't be with Afrihost much longer (I'm giving it one more month), all this hype from the MyBB articles and commenters, but it's this crap? No thanks.

Same here in the south 12.5/6.25 at 20.00 well seems that there is no need to wait as they don't seem to be able to get this sorted. I also think I will give it until next month and then move on. Shame after 5 years of good service it seems that it has come to an end...

18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P in the South at 20:15. Gave up on work and decided to watch The Ben Heck Show instead. It has taken me about 40 min so far to stream 20min worth of video. As I type this I am waiting for the next 5 minutes to buffer.
