Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I am just glad Netflix is working, otherwise wifey would really be giving me a hard time...

I thought it might be a Revision3 problem, so tried streaming YouTube and Vevo on my xbmc machine (metal videos plugin). Same constant buffering. So bought a prepaid bundle on another network and watched. All the streaming videos with only an initial buffer of 10s.

On a side note, the new Arch Enemy singer is bloody awesome!

I thought the purpose of shaping was to ensure no lagging on real time services. I am being shaped at 12.5%/6.25% and yet I cannot even watch streaming in SD on a 10 mbps line without constant buffering

My sentiments exactly. After switching to the new non Afrihost account, I took notice of buffering times. Just watched a 720p video from YouTube with a 7s buffer time and a 4 minute runtime with no buffering in between. Sadly it was still Sound Garden and I wasted bandwidth.

I know not to even bother trying HD - it would be pointless and frustrating.

10PM, still shaped to death. This Afrihost Home Uncapped is literally. A joke.

This is on the FULLY upgraded East IPC. You guys in the South waiting for your full upgrade, don't hold your breath.

+1. I think I may have to leave at the end of this month. I can't believe I'm still being shaped so heavily at this time.

Hi there

Why is this so?
I have joined since 19th, and this is a first fro me???
Should have stayed with other ISP, even if the speed was slow!!

Chris

Oh dear. Doing a fresh Ubuntu install on my laptop. Estimate is 2 hours to download all the extras. The joy of 18.8 :(

At 00:30am: Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P in Gauteng on a 10Mbit line...
What the hell, I thought Afrihost just got more IPC capacity for the North after we we were shaped to death for like 4 months?
If this cycle starts again I'm out of here - Afrihost is even quite expensive now on 10Mbit uncapped :(

01h55 AM, 25%/12.5%. East suffering tonight.

Sorry that we're seeing more shaping still. I think we're still optimising the network to find the best performance ratio between capacity and performance. Remember that this will only affect P2P and realtime services should be performing at premium following the network upgrade last week.

I see many people are complaining about shaping. I know that the numbers are pretty awful right now, but please remember that we are testing to find the right "sweet spot" for how we deploy shaping, so that we offer the best overall experience. Right now, we're shaping to slowly release and find a good balance, rather than flood the network and then try to shape aggressively (which will also result in latency and horrible throughput for Shaped and Unshaped DSL users).

Please just bear with us a little longer while we do this, we need assess the full extent of demand so that we can make the necessary calculations to ensure we deliver a good, value for money experience following the upgrade of the network.

what a f*#@ing farce Afrihost! I thought you were meant to be getting "more than enough" capacity?!?!?! More than enough to me means no shaping, and that you would be able to avoid having to "shaping to slowly release and find a good balance".

You're just a bunch of lying, thieving, manipulating b@st@rds.... no other way of putting it now!
