Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Are you running multiple torrents or only a single file. You sometimes have to stack up a few well seeded torrents (and force start all of them) to saturate your line.

Loaded multiple torrents and that seems to have done the trick..

EDIT:

or not... multiple torrents are just as dead... getting 10 k/b

I personally feel the issue lies with Mtn. AfriMan received my tests that I did last night with Mweb and both Afrihost accounts and the evidence speaks for itself, as all 3 tests with the 3 ISP accounts were done on the same ADSL line with the same router etc.... With mweb the video started instantly with no buffer, unfortunately with my 2 AH accounts it buffered for 5 seconds when I started the video, played for 3, buffered for 3 repeat. So not entirely your fault, rather the people that provides bandwidth to you, just my opinion as i see it. :)

I'm sure AfriMan will be able to spot something off the results :) Very strange that there are such big differences.

Oh no :(
Are your HTTP downloads up to scratch?

forced stopped all the torrents and restarted it... seems to be okay for now :)

I hardly download HTTP.

EDIT: and its dying again :(

EDIT 2: changed my upload rate to unlimited and its going good again :wtf:

It could be the tracker, I think some of them don't like upload limitations :(

Ever considered something like cloudload.com before? Yeah it costs $5 a month for a 20GB space / unlimited traffic account, but you are secure then.

Ever since last week Monday all my traffic, youtube and streaming, have been limited to 50% speed.

At night it returns to normal and promptly at 8am it switches back to half speed.

Using my capped account this does not happen.

So why is uncapped suddenly hit with youtube speed limits when it never was a problem before?

Here is a pic of when it suddenly decides to go half speed.

uploadfromtaptalk1400252344996.jpg

As you can see it ran perfectly at 440KB and then got cut on the minute to around 200KB.

As I said. Just on normal uncapped. Capped is fine. I don't mind the shaping to **** since my streaming was always fine...but now you irritating me Afrihost.

Idea of what is happening here anyone?

This is very strange :(
Have you been able to monitor your latency during the same/ similar time periods?

Strange indeed. I don't post in here often if at all because I'm always happy.

But this is now becoming annoying. Latency on exchange is fine when this happens the few times I've run tracert to youtube.

I'll capture screens as I record this. I can set my watch on the schedule this happens on.

Edit: I can add that when I can get full speed my shaping is on 0%. When I can half speed streaming my shaping shows 18.5/6.5.

So something in your rules for uncapped home is messing around.

And the streaming includes the common sites like YouTube, Vimeo etc too?

Hey Afriguy whilst you say streaming is not affected it still feels to me as if it is. I watch a lot of Dota 2 over weekends im totally fine and im able to stream high/source modes just fine but during the week it is utterly impossible cause on medium it streams fine for a min or 2 then bam lag spike and it happens constantly same happens on on servers like Dailymotion. I understand shaping is done to minimize network decay etc but to me it feels like i'm being punished for nothing. Also my net usage is from 6pm onwards daily so i'm not refering to daily business shaping etc.

Streaming is definitely ignored by shaping, as is browsing and other realtime services.
Could you run a few diagnostics for me this weekend so we can get it escalated and looked into?

Hi AfriGuy,

I moved onto a 4mb uncapped account a week ago and out the box my DL speeds were great (max line speed) but lately it's been crawling. Newsserver stuff is still good at 300kbs but torrents are crawling at 4 - 10 kb even after hours. Before they would fly at full line speed after hours.

Any idea's why i'm already being heavily shaped? I'm in PE if that makes a difference.

Torrents have always worked liked that. Sharing is caring.

If you limit your upload the tracker will penalize you. You also have to keep in mind the transfer overhead might be included in the limited upload.

@Arksun: In terms of "But what is it like in general?" In the last 6 months (except March) I got shaped to 12.5% / 6.25% on 5 out of 7 days between ~5pm and 1am (my preferred online times).

Is this the average for everyone else on home uncapped? Or should I say.. is anybody else on average 5 out of 7 days between ~5pm and 1am getting 12.5% / 6.25% (also my preferred online time), or is it just Chris83?

Is there a problem with AH uncapped tonight? I'm finding web pages slow to load and what not...

edit: Yeah, so Steam downloads running at 3% to 8% of line speed (2mbps line).

Nothing abnormal from ClientZone:
Shaping Policy: 25% Download/ 6.5% P2P
Latest IP Address: 105.236.133.xyz
