So you're shaping HTTP during peak time as well?
There's clearly no such thing as real-time services on your network then.
 
Now that MTN has taken over, Afrihost are back to being crap again.

Paying over 1300 rand a month for a 20Mb uncapped account, and only being able to download at 200kb/s from Microsoft or Apple sites, even till 11pm at night.

Pull the other leg, you guys are criminals.
 
Soooo...joined afrihost, first 2 days were good...really good, hitting speeds of 400kb download speeds....now?? what happened? the only time i now see these speeds are between 12 and 2 at night...nice way to lock in customers afrihost....

during the day i am happy if i get 4kbs downloads....

The shaping is constantly changing, but definitely not only unshaped for 2 hours a day though.

Drop me a PM with your DSL username and I'll review the shaping changes on your account.
 
Why would a week of tests require clients to be shaped to a 10th of what they are paying for? Also, it has been like this for a long time now...a long long time. I am trying not to change, as the ISP I am testing is running decently, but it is still early days. And for some reason I am looking for a reason not to.

I have not found one yet.

OK, I've done some pretty extensive testing. From what I can see, in general YouTube realtime throughput is great. On a 4Mbps Uncapped line (shaped on harshest profile) I was able to get 720p streaming perfectly. However, it seemed not so great on the videos you sent me. I can't see what would be different, they seemed to be cached at the same node. I'm going to test further, but so far it seems to be something particular to those vids.

Problem is that those were just a few examples. Most if not almost all my 720p have an issue. Its still weird that Turbocharge and my free 1gb max the line though....

I still need to test that, but I was able to play quite a few 720p HD videos on the most shaped profile. I also saw that demand for bandwidth varied from video to video. For 720p this was anywhere between 1.5Mbps and just under 5Mbps. I'll put together a video screen grab later and post the results.

lagging my balls off in wildstar, turbocharge = lag gone

Would like to retract that statement. was fine for 10 mins - as you can see far right of last file 30 mins left on turbocharge, everything els is working fine

lagging like a mofo now.

Going to cancel my line and 20Mb account end of this month if this continues.

Sorry AH but I aint got time to pay you to test your network, especially not if you shape proper legitimate downloads from Microsoft or Apple.

swapped over to 1gb account - working fine
swapped to webafrica account - worked fine
swapped over to mweb 4mb uncapped home - worked fine

I'm glad I am not alone. Afrihost has really been good to me up until about 4 months ago. But this has to end.

Seriously, this is the std home uncapped package, WTF do you expect? I am also one of those browsers/gamers/streamers, so the odd GB I will download in 2 months, I have NO ISSUES with this product.
