My needs are almost completely streaming from Nethflix, Hulu, SkyGo, YouTube and very importantly XBMC (1channel, icefilms, project free tv). Look elsewhere for a streaming account.
Afrihost does not know how to identify Hulu and Netflix traffic. "Realtime" services exclude these even though you will be told otherwise. The proof is in the pudding.
I have never had a stable streaming experience in my 1 year with Afrihost. Join uncapped at your peril.
 
Is this correct? No errors on your part? How do I get the percentages up to 100 quickly?

You're misunderstanding. Those percentages indicate your throughput, not the restriction. You don't want 0%, you want 100%.
And no, you don't get it down until after 11pm as things stand.

This can be done easily by hitting the "Cancellation" button in Clientzone :p

Oops! I meant 100%!!! I know what they mean :p So they will be like this every day... even on weekends, right? I seriously hope I will be able to download like a mofo tonight :twisted:

You can only download between 12 and 6. You are welcome to keep watching youtube vids while waiting for midnight.

At the moment we're running some tests on the network, so we're shaping all clients on the lowest profile between 7:30am and 10pm. Thereafter, dynamic shaping comes into play.

There is no way to prevent shaping at the moment. Once we've finalised testing, we'll make a decision on what changes (if any) will be made to our AUP going forward.

Just to nitpick, you can still download when shaped, just a little slower. You can still run torrents and downloads in the background on your line. After 10pm we start relieving shaping, which usually happens pretty quickly (especially for lighter users).

As I mentioned, you can download throughout the day, speed just depends on your shaping profile. We remove the shaping restriction between 10pm and 7:30am, and during that time we use dynamic shaping on demand. So lighter users are usually unshaped (or less shaped) fairly quickly.

Never meant to imply you couldn't - sorry if I created that impression. I was telling the poster he didn't want 0%, because that equated to zero throughput ;)

Just to nitpick, You call 20-30kbs vs 450kbs a little slower? in what world is 6.5% of total speed catagorised as little slower?

BTW, on a 4mb line on the other company, i reached 550kb/s vs the max on afrihost of 400kbs (TAKE NOTE this was 1am in the morning)

Nice :D So if I download too much, then I will be put on a higher shaping profile, right? How much is too much?

I dunno if you mean kilobits or kilobytes. Kinda makes a big difference.

Not really. So to explain, during 7:30am and 10pm, everyone is shaped on the maximum profile setting. You can't be shaped lower than that. After that time, we shape dynamically and chances are you would move to a lesser profile fairly quickly and probably be fully unshaped between 11pm and midnight. It depends totally on your usage pattern profile and demand at any given time during the dynamic shaping period.

Ok, got it :) Thanks!!! If I download a lot of stuff right now then after 10pm tonight, it's very likely that I will be put on a higher profile setting due to my high usage pattern, right?

I just saw AH uncapped ADSL leaderboard :eek: How is it even possible?

Home Uncapped/2Mbps:

an********[email protected] 585.87GBs (Around 19GB per day) That's R0.51 per GB (The leader in the Uncapped 2Mbps category)
