Ok, got it Thanks!!! If I download a lot of stuff right now then after 10pm tonight, it's very likely that I will be put on a higher profile setting due to my high usage pattern, right?

I just saw AH uncapped ADSL leaderboard How is it even possible?

Look at this:

Home Uncapped/2Mbps:

an********[email protected] 585.87GBs (Around 19GB per day) That's R0.51 per GB (The leader in the Uncapped 2Mbps category)

I couldn't say how they do it, but I've seen that running high quality video streams can use a fair bit of bandwidth as well. So I would guess it's a combination of downloads and streaming

In your opinion, what is the max download speed of 4mbs? surely you are in the industry you are that you understand these things......

Like I've said previously in this thread... if you give Afrihost evidence they cannot refute, then they just simply ignore the problem, or pass the buck on to someone else.... which is either Telkom or You!

You're probably looking at around 350KB/s and 420KB/s on an average 4Mbps line

So if i in my post refer to the max of 4mbs why do you hesitate if its bit or byte

ok, give yourself a pat on the back cause with your account i managed 400KB/s....other CO 550KB/s....you still didnt answer my question.

You are mentioning figures that could have a very different impact on your statement. If you are downloading 550kiloBITS per second on a 4Megabit per second line, that is pretty poor, whether is 400kbps or 550kbps. If you are downloading 550kiloBYTES, that is actually not physically possible.

550kilobytes = 4400kilobits on a 4Mbps line which a theoretical maximum of 4096kilobits per second (that is not including overheads).

So again, it makes a big difference which you mean.

And please ask a clear question without sarcasm or rhetoric. I'd like to help, but at least meet me halfway here.

As to your actual question here - anything over 400kiloBYTES per second on a four megabit line would be considered excellent. As AfriGuy mentioned, 300-350 kiloBYTES per second would be average.

It is clear to me that he has a line faster than 4mb. I also saw the bits but read it as bytes. So he's asking why the rate limit which should actually be asked to his other ISP as to why the faster free speed.

Just to nitpick, You call 20-30kbs vs 450kbs a little slower? in what world is 6.5% of total speed catagorised as little slower?

BTW, on a 4mb line on the other company, i reached 550kb/s vs the max on afrihost of 400kbs (TAKE NOTE this was 1am in the morning)

You welcome to re-read the thread from about the last week or so...my question was why are you stating a little slower when countles people before your statement proven its not a little but a lot slower. what you effectively doing is false advertising.

If this is going back to what was/ is being discussed around the current testing being done for the shaping I think it's fair to say that everything has been answered that's been brought up.

As for wording, I guess everyone is different. Someone might say a little, someone else a lot, or medium... up to the individual I guess.

I still think whether AfriMan used a little, a lot or moerse lot/ little/ bit - won't make the percentage any different though

For people not concerned with downloading it is a little slower, as it does not effect them. For people that downloads a lot it is a LOT slower, so it is a huge concern to them, How I see it.
