Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

I can understand frustration, I totally can. And don't worry, I'm not going to take a day off :)

The best bet that any of us have is working together to pinpoint exactly which areas of the network can be improved, or whether there are specific commonalities between those have a certain experience and those who are not. I don't think we can get further otherwise. I think we're just as motivated to improve performance and make our clients happy. I'd rather be handing our "Awesomes" and high fives, believe me. But I do believe that we'll get this right.

Great stuff, that sounds good. I am positive once your tests are done and crinkles ironed out that the network will return to it's glory days.

All I can say is this:
"5 months being shaped EVERY day at 12.5% and 6.5% from 07:00 till 00:00 in Cape Town. 10MB line not even getting more than 60kB/s between those times, and streaming is pathetic"

...NUFF SAID!

Yeah but when will that be? How long you still gonna carry on with this "testing"? I fear it's already too late for me, I weathered the IPC snafu earlier this year, which happened to be the time I joined you guys, but now you've gone too far & I've lost faith in Afrihost. Afrihost lauds their transparency & service yet I've seen none of that with this whole "testing"/shaping debacle. With multiple threads going on about it & people jumping ship, it has to effect Afrihosts reputation somehow & I can't believe your management still thinks it's a good idea to carry on with this. I'm directing this at the company, in case you think it's another personal attack, your feedback & service here is nothing but incredibly awesome. /rant

For the moment we are blanket shaping Uncapped users from 7:30am to 10pm daily. After 10pm, we are using the dynamic system to manage shaping according to realtime demand.

I'm home from 5pm at night and go to sleep 10/11pm, which makes your service useless to me. I did notice that the terrible streaming I've endured seems to ease up at 10pm.

Why the hell should I pay R300+ for an uncapped line when I'm "blanketed shaped" with the rest of the folk. This month I did 25gig... is that considered abuse and you just decided it's okay to shape the living **** out of me? Like literally getting 1/3 of my line speed??

Consider another client gone from your network. Your statement of "regular folk" seems to ring so badly in my ears... the same statement Web Africa used when they had their own network. And as anyone can point out to you, that failed dismally and they're now (again) reselling I.S bandwidth

Good riddance

Why did I leave? First and foremost because of lack of communication from Afrihost's side.... I had to actively seek out the reason why myself, or any one of my friends/family were having low throughput issues. This is my main gripe with Afrihost! They were NOT honest and up-front with their customers in the first place, when these shaping changes were made. I'm still waiting for an email explaining what happened, and why I was being shaped.

Secondly, and this is less important imo, is the fact that my internet was damn slow, and I wasn't even able to stream properly. I could most likely live with slow internet for a while, but the fact that Afrihost, Afriman or Gian have been silent (except for mybb) on this issue just reeks of "lack of care" for your customers....

This is coming from a guy who told everyone he knows that Afrihost support and communication is the best.... What a plonker I feel like now!

Agree....I am still waiting for feedback on my line/account since my pm close to 2weeks ago.

For me Afrihost = sanral. implements something without communicating

If Sanral were like Afrihost, the gantries would have gone up overnight, and we would be shoved down to 1 lane for 2/3rds of the day and we will be told that we've all "outgrown" the highway we're supposed to be driving on....

AfriPeeps, I've reached the end of my tether with you too, unfortunately. In terms of end-user experience your cutting over to MTN's network way back when ushered in a period of steady decline. A long period, which had me hoping against hope for many months on end that you would beat the odds and return to the glory of old. I even upgraded to a 'business' account for a time and, for a time, that performed reasonably well. However, I don't think I'd be exaggerating if I said that your business account now performs worse than your normal account once did. When it comes at twice the price it leaves a very sour taste indeed...

The mention of MTN had me worried from the get-go. Companies of MTN's size aren't particularly interested in their users' individual needs; they're interested in generating maximum dividends for their shareholders. Whilst I appreciate the allure of many, many stacks of cash I feel like Afrihost has sold out, and I can no longer support you in good conscience. I know my measly few Randelas won't be missed, but I will miss the quality of product and service you once provided. I'll celebrate if Afrihost succeeds in turning MTN more red than what MTN turns you yellow, but c'est la vie and all that until then. I wish you and yours the best in the future.

I've just jumped ship too... also moved from uncapped home to business to escape some of the shaping but for the last week this has been shaped even worse than my uncapped was. 4 days of dialogue with clientzone denying that any shaping is applied to business, but testing with their credentials all is 100%? Replace with my credentials and my ceiling is sitting at 2kbps  (At least it does prove finally that it's not Telkom.)

*sigh*

Still trying to comprehend how a service can go from so good to so bad in a matter of weeks.

Bye bye, AH :( I don't LIKE your draconian shaping! Will never again do business with you as long as you and MTN are in bed with each other.

Hi there Afriman

I have an question that an telkom engineer asked me why does all my account get session time out every 3 days and 52sec?????????

And this is another reason why I'm switching ISPs. 3AM in the morning and being raped, I mean shaped, to 6% download.

PS: TurboCharge doing a marvellous job of not doing anything at all.

It's past 4AM and I still have 25% Download/ 6.5% P2P. Torrents are running at 4kB/s. The network status is fine, so I wonder what the cause of this is. Hopefully the Afrireps can provide information later today.

First time in weeks that I have some decent time infront of a PC and I am greeted with Shaping Policy: 12.5% Download/ 6.25% P2P . WTF!!!! I have only done 53gb for the month on a uncapped 10mb Account. Netflix can barely stream, youtube buffers. WTF????????

Home Uncapped 2Mbps:

Account Status: Cancellation Pending
Shaping Policy: 25% Download/ 6.5% P2P

I've made my decision. Grubscrew, I suggest you do the same because Afripeople cannot help you get this sorted out. Afriman said that they are running "tests" on Home Uncapped accounts. In other words, they are shaping these accounts EVERY DAY to ensure all Capped/Business accounts perform better and faster 24/7.

"Afriman said that they are running "tests" on Home Uncapped accounts. In other words, they are shaping these accounts EVERY DAY to ensure all Capped/Business accounts perform better and faster 24/7"

So they are doing these tests on my R300 per month - leaving all their uncapped users with a severely crippled service and not batting an eyelid in taking the full fee for this.

The only feedback or correspondence we as users get, are via this thread
It seems the reps on here are now the only spokesperson for the company - and I don't blame them for the occasional meltdown ;-)

Hope this saga gets resolved soon

Soon? They have been running "tests" on these account for a while now. If I were you, I would cancel my AH account before the 25th and move to WA/Connection.
