dude, even browsing is affected, we can't even download jpg's larger than 1mb. They should just start advertising uncapped as streaming only, cause that is what it has become...
 
Well im trying out this new game called Heros and Generals on Steam.. Free to play..

Afrihosts shapes the crap out of it, it wont even load player profile... switch over to capped.. loads and playable.

Uncapped just means.. browsing.
 
I called your call centre Afrihost and they knew didley squat about your shaping policy change. He even put me on hold and came back with we ' haven't changed anything' 'don't know'....


Obviously you guys have terrible communication internally.
 
Tried playing League of Legends just now (5 minutes ago) on AH home uncapped 2Mb, the game loads and then disconnects. Switched over to my WA backup and it works perfectly, <200ms pings with 2 people playing. This more than anything seals the deal for me. AFAIK gaming should be considered real-time. Bye bye AH!

Yep, pretty terrible. I manage to get in a game, ping looks fine (~160ms) for about 3-5minutes and then everything just stops moving and its kinda like a slide show and ping just looks normal. Feels like heavy packet loss or something.

How do you suppose that will happen? What's the solution?

On a related note, over the past week I've been noticing I'm not becoming unshaped at around midnight as per usual. I've been up at 3am on numerous mornings and still have 25%/6.5% shaping applied. Judging from the amount of data I'm able to pull per night, it seems as though I'm only becoming unshaped for maximum 1 hour, just before the shaping window begins in the early morning again. Has something changed?
 
When they started out, Afrihost was all over the place with new announcements on MYBB
Now - not a peep or explanation from management level

No real answers from the reps - they just repeat the same "delivering a world class service" and more corporate spin

MYBB should do an editorial on this abortion of a service to paid up customers
Get some reaction and real reasons from Afrihost - just look at all the threads of the last couple of weeks

1:15am and still shaped to death - waited the whole day and still cannot update drivers on new laptop - MADDD !!!
 
Inevitable as everyone moves their downloading to after midnight that the network won't cope. You can't expect to compress 24 hours worth of traffic into 6 hours without overloading things in those 6 hours

Surely this means the IPC is maxing out all the time now which should be enough "evidence" for MTN/AH to upgrade capacity again?

In the end they can label it as they want, they can call it what they want, most of us are leaving because of the recent changes. On my new ISP even the dodgy sources streams without a buffer, very happy.

An ISP's AUP is their way of telling us what clients they want, so by voting with ones wallet is the only way to tell them back what you think, as no amount of arguing with them will change the status quo.

Moral of the story: Try other ISP's out and use one that works for you without having to get on your knees begging and pleading for usable internet :)

That's if one can get over the Stockholm Syndrome effect first and pluck up the courage to go on an ISP walkabout :D
