Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

Has this changed at all since last night? Our Team did push through some changes late last night so some services may be been affected.

How are your other services at the moment?

I switched over to capped and mumble worked a lot better. At that time YouTube was still running okay - 720p streaming was a bit wonky...but serviceable.

Right now at work, but I don't expect any problems during the day. It's in the evening when there is a lot of demand that things go iffy. Personally think the software is having problems keeping up with all the data it has to process. But that's just me.

I am glad to hear there is some improvement with the Capped accounts, Uncapped accounts may be a bit off for the moment, but I am expecting them to improve as soon as our Team loads the latest iteration of the network management software.

VoIP is still terrible, not that we expected any different after all the unkept promises of improvement, and this speed test on a 4mb line speaks for itself:

Which VOIP service are you currently using? Is it connecting to an internationally hosted server?

Specifically TS3, to hosts in the US, in the UK, in France and in Germany. Some hosts take several attempts to resolve and several more to connect.

Edit:

I just ran a few connect tests and I was at least able to connect to servers now, there was nobody available to talk to so I couldn't test the quality of the connections.

More Edit:

I find it worrisome that you were having connectivity problems with Team Speak, it should by all accounts be a prioritized services on our ADSL network.

Could I maybe send you a account that you could test TS with you.

This is not new... I've been having issues with Games for months now and more recently VoIP apps (Mumble).

I CANNOT use mumble without VPN'ing through a friend's fiber connection or switching to my capped account or Turbocharging.

The increase in these types of issues occurring is the primary reason why our Team decided to push the update through to our Network Management Software last weekend. :(

Once our system software is updated and running nominally, you should definitely see an improvement with games and even VOIP.

Afiguys could you mention to Gian that maybe he could integrate VIDI Into Afrihost+?

Video on Demand has definitely seen a significant increase in popularity over the past few months in South Africa, I am sure Gian has a plan in mind, Afrihost Plus+ is just the first iteration, I am sure there will be changes and updates. :)

I will definitely mention it to him when I see him next.

Maybe ask someone else, my relationship with AH has deteriorated to the point where I am not willing to test your network for you. My posts are for the benefit of other consumers.

I haven't had it that bad, but in the last week especially, I find TS unusable after about 9pm, and on many hosts I can't resolve the address or can't connect to the server.

Last night I switched to an Axxess account I am using to collect comparative data (they both use MTN) and it worked perfectly.

Yeh, same. Mumble unusable after around 9'ish. Cannot even log into SMITE. Connection via VPN, switch to capped account or turbocharge uncapped account and boom, everything works fine.

when exactly will AH be done with aalll the updates? ???,

when exactly will AH be done with aalll the updates? ???,

Our Team made some real progress over the past few hours, each change necessitates a restart of the network management devices which then results in our network performance dropping off until things stabilizes.

You should start seeing the changes on your account over the next few hours.

Its the same answer that we all have been getting daily for the last two weeks or so: "we have made lots of progress in the last x hours" and "we expect it to be better soon"...

Just gave up on trying to work over openVPN due to the connection just loosing sync. Switched to a WA account and now it works smoothly. Might be time to jump ship, as afrihost just cannot seem to get it together.

And this will hopefully be the last time that I needed to utter those words.

You have a difficult job being on the front line. I can only hope that the higher ups get the message (the real message, not just the confrontational wrapping its delivered in) unhappy customers send via you.

My Team reports directly to Gian, but I think it was the frequency and the vehemence displayed in quite a few of the mails that really touched a nerve, and convinced him it was time to reach out to our clients.
