Hmm, so all of yesterday I was using the capped 75gb account and there were no issues. Today, I logged back to the uncapped and instantly, I have poor YT, packet loss ingame and some sites won't load / slow load.

Odd, I can't see any issues that could be causing this.
What's your latency like?

latency is a touch higher but only by about 20 so negligible but that packet loss is sitting at 7.3%

It's almost as if this uncapped account is not happy with DDO and when it's not, it punishes YouTube as well.

First few hops are good but then no.5 comes along and it's 200?

Looks like the latency is being introduced on the 5th hop
Code:
5 * 204 ms 204 ms rb-cr-1.za--rb-dca-2.mtnns.net [196.44.31.122]

It shouldn't be this high on a local hop, anything after the 8th hop is UK peering links, so latency thereafter looks normal through Level3 and through to the States.
Could you PM me your DSL username please? I'd like to take a closer look at things.

AfriGuy, can you explain to me why I am being shaped, despite ClientZone telling me that no shaping is being applied?

I'm downloading a 1GB file which started off at full speed (10mbps home uncapped), but then shortly thereafter has been throttled to about 500kbps. This can clearly be seen in the graph below. ClientZone advises that I don't Turbocharge as I'm apparently NOT being shaped.

Update: I tried again with a different file later. Notice a pattern? I'd love an explanation for this please!

If ClientZone shows no shaping then we definitely don't shape the traffic. We shape by packet signature, so there would be a slowdown as traffic is classified, but you would see shaping being applied in your ClientZone status.

Some servers do limit traffic, so it may depend on the service you're using as well.

Drop me a PM with the file links and I'll test it on my side as well.

Unfortunately I cannot give you a link as I am downloading these files via sftp from my personal server (as I have always done). I can confirm that there are definitely no server limits at play.

I will try another download today and see if the same thing happens.

Thanks, keep us posted :) Please also test other downloads to see if they also seem slow.

Glad I had Turbo left because the shaping has been whack since last night. Downloads just sat at zero through the night, had to switch and use a capped account for files and now using the turbo this morning.

I can see there was heavier shaping during the day and early evening in the East, but from what I can see by 10:30pm most clients would have been seeing much less shaping (and many would have been completely unshaped). Did you verify that you were being shaped in ClientZone? It would depend on your usage pattern though.

Think I'm at 70gb odd at the moment, did log in to see what was up and no shaping status. Was funky having it dead in the water at like 1am considering my downloading has been impressive so far. Maybe a hiccup because now after the Turbo has expired, it's acting normal *shrug*

Just thought I'd report in any event ;)

I can have a look at the shaping applied to your account along with the times if you'd like :) Drop me a PM with the deets and I can take a closer look at things for you.

I am considering changing my 4mbps business to a 10mbps 200GiB package with Plus+ for the mobile data & SIM and permanent double data. Are all of these per-month? No contract for the SIM? Also, how do I find out how much top-up data costs?

It's all on a month to month basis :)
Mobile topups are R99/GB
DSL topups are R5/ GB

Okay, thanks :) and if I were to do the change half way through the month, would both the cancelled package and new package pro-rata, or would I have to wait for the end of the month?

It's always better to just upgrade/ downgrade as opposed to cancelling and ordering a new package. If you upgrade mid-month the billing will be run pro-rata while a downgrade will be scheduled for month end.

Would changing from the 4mbps business to 10mbps capped 200GB be an upgrade or downgrade? When I changed from 10mbps uncapped to 4mbps business it was instant even though it was R100 cheaper.

It may be a downgrade as there is a few Rands difference between the two packages, the ClientZone will confirm any changes though.

so i've complained about this for weeks and twitter keeps saying its not.

tonight it happened again where a youtube video is buffering @ 70kb/s and our international traffic was very very slow. we then used the turbocharge and boom everything is fine again.

current IP : 105.210.**.** - pm for ip/account name

was shaped lets say around 8:10 - 20 getting 70Kbps on youtube on 144p video

turbocharged lets say around 8:30- 35 ish - getting 7815Kbps on same video after turbocharge kicked in

if you guys tell me again how you don't f*#&$ shape youtube i swear I'm going to lose it.

been 5 flipping weeks that I have been complaining about it.
