Shaping is done to keep the network performing well, it's mostly done during peak times.
Okay, so you have this shaping because you have too many users then?

My god. All I see is you moan and bitch, are you even an afrihost client? If not, get out of here. Some of us enjoy talking here and your trolling is really &%*$ing me off.
With that aside, I saw a large spike in ping last night across WA, Afrihost, as well as MWeb, and all of them had comparable pings. Afrihost was a little higher, but I will not say it was an Afrihost problem as all my accounts did it. I will PM you AfriHeros and if you can take a look that will rock
HOOAH!
Uhm. My Web Africa ping was perfect thanks.

No. Shaping part of the product.
It allows for lots of benefits and essentially, it's how any Home Uncapped service is run.
But why wouldn't you have only enough users so as to allow everyone to run at 100% speed at all times?
Now you have too many users for your network to handle.
We've tested Teamspeak extensively and we've found that it works best on private servers, vs public servers. Also, services that don't use the standard port 9987 (I think) seem to perform poorly while the official TS port works like a bomb.
But it used to work for years without any packet loss. I've tried resetting my internet a couple of times with no change to my packet loss. Then I switch to my Web Africa capped account and the packet loss is entirely gone.
Other friends that are connected to this server also have no issue on Telkom and their WA account.
I've tried testing with one of the Afrihost guys for a couple of weeks now, but so far I've not been able to determine what the cause of my packet loss is.
I've borrowed another modem, installed a new filter, tried only having the modem plugged in and none of that helped.
The guy who was helping me contacted Telkom and they said that they don't have any issues with congestion on my exchange.
Every time so far that I've switched to my Web Africa account so far, the packet loss has gone away.
We moved house and wanted to move our Afrihost contract here. But the timelines to get it activated here is ridiculous!!!!
Will upgrading from capped to uncapped by any chance bump our activation request to top?

If you can avoid going to Uncapped I'd suggest it, their Capped accounts are a hell of a lot better
Hi!
To which timeline are you referring? The ADSL line activation?
What's up with the poor google performance with Afrihost?
Well its been more than a month waiting for Afrihost giving line back to Telkom.
Then Telkom has to move line to other city
And then wait again for Afrihost to take ownership
LOOONG wait. And i need internet now - 3G isn't internet!!!
We're looking into it, but so far testing seemed to be much better yesterday. Which google services specifically were acting up?
Just general things like search or even opening a new tab in chrome. Takes forever to sync up with google.
Seems better today. Thx
Hey Afrihost,
4Mb ADSL home uncapped, Wednesday @ 11h21, Speedtest shows 17ms ping and 3.41Mbs but Youtube wont even load.
Are you serious with this?
