Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

You do realise that at this point the only person spamming up the thread is you, right? If you hadn't commented when someone said something about speedtest.net locations being wrong, it would have died with their posts, but now you're turning this entire thread into a petty fight.

You obviously didn't follow this thread. On every single page the past 50 pages, there's someone complaining that Speedtest.net gets their location wrong.

So therefore:

if speedtest reports different location -> ip must have changed -> afrihost has reconfigured something -> it is reasonable to expect a possible difference in performance, whether good or bad

yes? :D

No. Afrihost/MTN give out dynamic IPs. Your IP address could (but doesn't necessarily) change every time you connect. Which IP address you get has nothing to do with your performance. And lastly, Speedtest.net could simply have updated their database for the IP address (or range) you're on without you getting a new IP address.

Which IP address you get has nothing to do with your performance. .

Not strictly true. It's possible you may get onto a different subnet which is routed differently for whatever reason. Unlikely, but possible.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but as far as I know Ookla (Speedtest) uses MaxMind for their GeoIP and ISP names. Submitting something new or requesting an update to existing data on MaxMind does not mean Speedtest will immediately show this. It might take a while (weeks possibly). It is not just AH + Speedtest. There are other providers in the bigger picture that most people don't even consider.

Saying that. My connection seems to be stable at the moment.

How i wish i could bring the CPA into this bull****. This weekend has been the most frustrating, just trying to play some games but this stupid account is so unstable it works one min, then for **** the next.

Today is the worst I have experienced.

Youtube buffers, International sites are crawling. Other peoples Speedtest images don't even completely load.

This added to Afrihost disconnections this morning at around 12:15AM then 2:15AM without being able to reconnect for at least 5 minutes at a time.

Add to that the geolocation issue causing many sites not to work. I have to manually add my location in google as it says I am from Stellenbosch, facebook thinks I am from Medunsa. Blackberry thinks I am from Iran. Other sites think I am in the twilight zone.

After being with Afrihost 4Mb Uncapped for several months with no complaints I have decided to move on.

this is getting absurd now. if afrihost wants to keep there customers they better give us a month at half price for all these issues.

we already entering mid month and pings are all over the place, cant even watch 1080P streams anymore.

I think we should only compare international speedtests and ignore local

honestly who really cares about local, except the businesses and they should be on the business side anyway, the only others are those that work from home remotely on weekends (like me) and gamers (like me) - speedtest is now

Upload Speed: 5 kbps (0.2 KB/sec transfer rate)

cmon guys surely there is someone that can stabilise this for us
