Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

It has nothing to do with capacity otherwise it would have been like the last month on IS when everything is affected. Browsing, youtube and rapdishare is not being throttled. The problem is the fixed QoS rules.

It has everything to do with capacity. They're of course throttling us all to roughly 25% to make sure they don't go over capacity, something which would make QoS not work. Pete_A's logic was perfectly sound: If Afrihost had the capacity, they could increase it to 50% (or 75% or 99%) and have QoS still work. But they don't do that, so very likely they simply don't have the required capacity.

Based on my findings, only downloading is affected (not only p2p). Browsing, VOIP, streaming, etc looks like its running on max. I'm not sure if you can call that throttling.

My previous post saying everything was at full speed was a big fat lie.

I've just realized I was on my other Afrihost account (unshaped/prepaid) the whole time. Just swapped back to uncapped, and I'm definitely throttled. Cant get higher than about 150kBps (1.2mbit) no matter what protocol I test.

So for a 10mb uncapped account, thats way worse than 23%.. more like 15%. Bleh.

Oh btw my usage for the month is 115gB

1024: Arksun - 23.4375%
twicode - 23.4375%

2048: new_in_za2 - 21.04%

4096: wingnut771 - 23.4375%
ainsin - 23.046875%

10240: htpc - 23.4%

4096: garp - 23.4% ... hmmm exactly the same as Arksun, wingnut and htpc. What are the odds? Definitely THROTTLED.

Just wanted to add I'm from Durban

EDIT: and I can open piratebay on my non afrihost forced into a corner alternate isp

As soon as people from Cape Town stop claiming that this is a Cape Town problem, I will stop pointing out that everyone is affected, not just people from Cape Town.

obvioulsy everyone is effected in some way or another and we not claiming to be the only ones... maybe cos we are voicing it more, its been read that we think we are the only ones.... basically the whole of the Cape and KZN are the worst off for both international and national due to no IPC, so we have to live with a back-haul, which compounds the issues...

Test conducted on 15 November 2012 21:45
Download Speed: 1125 kbps (140.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 373 kbps (46.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 236 ms

ping is fair, D/L is highest I've seen it all day
BF3 has been running fine, now to try see if 25man is possible

On a 4meg uncapped account and im getting around 110KB/s on my downloads from my seedbox via http and/or https. Im getting the same result for downloads from uploaded.net and Youtube downloads are just slightly better.

Seems to be around 23% of my actual capacity just like everyone else.

I tested my capped account also with afrihost im getting full speeds so it seems like uncapped users are bein throttled atm.

Location: JHB
Usage for the month: 30GB

Hmmm... tinfoil hat time. Since we all noticed that we were throttled to 23%, my speed has gradually increased to about 50%
