Biggest load or k@k on this forum. Make up random stats to pretend like it's better. People please don't fall for this cr@p and get fooled paying for another month of cr@p service. Unless u like getting raped by your ISP each month well in that case enjoy.

I posted a long reply and then it got lost in the matrix!

It's probably for the best cos I see the posts I was trying to address are not even on this page anymore! Anyway, it's definitely QoS and not throttling. Even different users can get different speeds on the same file, then it's can't be a universal throttle. Or am I not thinking this through?

Bottom line is this, last week (and the week before) was horrible. If you read through the complaints, clients couldn't browse, they couldn't game and we were doing our best to make this work. Turns out the traffic management system (which is the same system used by other ISP's including IS) was at fault, hardware had to be replaced and we could finally bring performance into acceptable range. It's not perfect, it needs time and it needs data. We have a little over 4 weeks of data with which to determine usage trends, we simply need a lot more. So this is being done as and when we see capacity available. Our intention is to max out the IPC as much as we can, so that we're always giving available resources to our clients. Since we're paying for it anyway, we might as well pass it straight onto you. There is definitely a helluva lot more bandwidth being moved since we crossed over to IS. I did publish figures a while ago, I'm happy to repost them to give you guys an idea. I also posted that if you compare the usage of the top percentile month on month, it's almost a hundred TB's more.

We are committed to keep working on this, and we are confident, after last week's issues being address through hard work and determination, that this is something that is do-able and we have the right skills to get it right. It's not a PR smokescreen or politician speak. This is the straight up truth :)

Dude, you've cancelled your Afrihost account and moved to greener pastures as far as I'm aware. Kindly vacate this thread, and take your fellow incessantly moaning, juvenile clowns with you if you please.

What do you stand to gain from continually spewing your poorly formulated vitriol?

Small man syndrome ;)

Also, last time I looked, afrihost hadn't forcibly had intercourse with anyone?

Would be awesome to see Afrihost institute some form of crimen injuria action against people who make posts like this. It's pretty tiresome.

@AfriMan. It seems I have finally tracked down my disconnects in Diablo3:

Error 3007 "disconnects every 5-10 mins" due to not being connected to general chat or playing a barbarian using whirlwind.

Now I quickly tested it this morning and wasn't DCed not using whirlwind, I did DC when I used it even though being connected to general chat. Need to reconfirm this, I'm still wondering if it could be port or OS related...

Man, now I'm going to have to play Diablo tonight to test this out! You guys really make me work hard ;)

Well last night i gave the help centre a call (was at 0.1mb/s on a 10mb line) cause i wanted to put in some guild wars 2 time, after a considrable wait, i was told that it was my line and they will log a call with telkom, i told him this is not the case!

To prove it i bought a Openweb R29 1 GB capped, changed over and got full line speed (8.93 mb/s), don't
think the gentlemen was very happy with me

While i can understand they have issues, which i am somewhat patiently waiting for them to resolve, i really do miss IS ;(

Sorry about that, definitely seems like it's not a line issue. If you haven't PM-ed or mailed me yet, please do.

Your nick and location says everything about you, go back to Brakpan, they are missing their village idiot.

Thanks Afriman

I did PM you but im sure you have 1,000,000,000 PM's :D

And be sure to share your battletag :D

Any GW2 players?

OK, so from what I can see, speeds seemed to have dropped for some around 9-10pm last night, to about half. I'm still trying to get confirmation from our reporting on to what extent this happened and what the cause may have been. I'll post more info when I have it.

I ran some tests for myself last night. Definitely saw that downloads are running slightly slower, but to be fair that was jumping between 1-2Mbps on a 4Mbps line for me. But queued up about 20 files of about 8GB total, and those were all downloaded by 5:30am this morning (from about 22h00 the previous night). That's around 1GB per hour, which is just short of max line speed for me (I think the best I've ever done is about 1.5GB in an hour on any ISP).

I know it's not the best, but I think it's not "slit my wrists" terrible for now, and we'll keep hacking away until we can get this going better.

PS None of my queued up files contained the letters "XXX"

Last night was amazing, played whole night chatted on TS no lag no DC and I even download a 2.5 Gb update after playing. Full speed :)
Whatever you did please keep it that way.

:):):)

Actually, most people reported all day yesterday that they got less then 25% of the promised speed. I just did the same quick test as yesterday (5 downloads, 3 different servers) and I am now averaging 658.35kbps on a 2Mbps account. That's 32%, slightly better than yesterday. Still not quite good enough, though.

An average of ~66% throughout the night when everyone is sleeping, which I believe is well outside business hours? :)

Edit: Quote fail.

Fifa gaming to Europe was still quite laggy last night and had to switch back to FNB, but I guess this can be expected till we have IPC in Cape Town.

My TP-Link router is displaying I've got a line attenuation of 60db, which I believe is quite bad and might be the reason for some of the disconnects, can this be caused by a fault on the line? SNR is ok at 14db. (Line with Afrihost as well)

Dota 2 pings were high last night, pings ranged from 300ms to 340ms.

Dont know if it was just me, exchange or Afrihost.

Ok i'm new to this ADSL thing, only got it last week. Is it common for every protocol to be shaped all the time ? I mean everything is slow now, not just torrents but HTTP, Xbox, Youtube . . . Last night at about 11PM I started downloading the remaining 600mb of a true blood episode and this morning at 7, it was still busy, but the weird thing is that it was downloading at full speed. Maybe i'm being throttled for excessive bandwidth usage or something because i have used quite a lot for a 2mb line. Online games seem fine though.

Things for me have definitely improved over the past few days. Skype no longer drops connections and video isn't laggy. I'm also getting good speeds on NNTP.

WoW ingame at present is 207ms, which is the best its been since MTN showed up on the doorstep... last night manage to get into the 25man but just after 11ish my internet light went red and oh well go kicked... waited 20mins and it stayed like that, so went to watch TV... life of an insomniac...
