Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Afriman visiting is good and well BUT.................. see below.

No offence, but if your intention is to shape people into the ground when they have average download requirements, then I don't think you're changing it for the better.

You might be making great advances by providing cheap uncapped for 'moms and pops,' but other ISPs seem to be beating you in the race to providing sustainable 'true' uncapped.

Battlefield 3 downloads are impossible on afrihost at the moment. Downloading at around 20-40 KB/s.

I used an Open Web test account a few days ago, this opened my eyes to the extent at which i am being throttled. I think i may be getting a new ISP for Christmas.

I see so many IT companies recommending businesses purchase uncapped ADSL but they only using on average 50 100 GB of data why not stick to normal capped accounts and get the best performance?

Don't get me wrong in certain circumstances uncapped account are great but there are many scenarios where capped accounts will serve the clients needs better.

Would be interested to get other peoples thoughts on this?

You want to have general discussion about uncapped in a thread about the poor service from an ISP?

IMHO I would start another thread.

And having now been given a peek at the future, I can say it's nothing short of amazing.

What I've been told exceed my expectations, and I think it's going to blow your minds too.

Hi Afriman.

Thanks for the feedback.
I hope it really is everything you are promising but you would have to excuse me for not jumping up and down with joy.
These are the exact same promises made just before the initial move away from IS and you know how that turned out.

Is the ETA for this uber upgrade still Feb?

Exactly what I'm thinking.

OK, first off, I belive give credit where it is due. Afrihost finally did contact me yesterday and a lot of port resets and whatnots were done, in the end it really looked like a Telkom stuffup. So a call was logged with Telkom. This morning Telkom calls - they sorted some issue they had since yesterday late - I tested and all is working again.

So kudos to Afrihost, thanks and well done.

On a more negative note though - I am looking at going uncapped from next year(been with Afrihost capped for about 3 years now), and from the feedback on this thread, I just cannot see myself staying with Afrihost for my uncapped needs. I am looking at MWEB uncapped and have had very positive recommendations for them.

So @AfriMan - tell me honestly please, will the Afrihost uncapped offerings be the same or better than MWEB from Jan 2013, or will the current whoes continue? Thanks.

I reckon we'll see improvements in Feb. No earlier. We are talking about telkom here :P

Crystal ball time! Look what was said before the move! Depends what you need uncapped for, If you need it for daylight hours then go elswhere, if after hours is okay then Afrihost is fine (IMHO). February is still a long way off. I have a 1Gig Capped and the Uncapped, best of both worlds.

Network is getting better. Glitches here and there, but I'm looking forward to IPC and capacity upgrade in early 2013.

And I won a prepaid voucher. Thanks AH. :D

Talking on the phone now, think this guy has reset my port twice. Has no clue what's cracking. Trying to download from Apple.com so you'd expect it to be quite fast... Youtube works at full speed...

edit: expect a cancellation notice in the beginning of the month. this is ridiculous! I asked at first if we were being shaped, was told no, then wasted 20 mins(from a cellphone), to only be told, oh you are being shaped. 20KB/s shaping acceptable when people are doing 600KB/s? Absolute rubbish.

So I have been given a temp account from what seems like a real living person and not a copy/paste bot.

So far there seems to be some hope that the whole of AH isn't actually phuked and at least some of their accounts can achieve speeds we come to expect from the days of I.S.

First thing I did was update my Dropbox which was timing out for the last 2 weeks. I am dreading going back to my own uncapped account.

I'm having >10% packet loss and elevated ping to overseas servers today. Started about 30 minutes ago.

Yesterday I couldn't stream anything from grooveshark. Today I can't even fully load the page. Looks like Mweb has my money from the new year again.

Well the website is showing network problems. Network Status.

I'm having high latency and slow speeds accross the board, nothing is good at the moment.

Be that as it may, it couldn't stream even when the network was "optimal", so this just adds fuel to the fire.
