Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

My international speeds are currently at about 330KB/sec to Denmark, which isnt too bad. Overall things have improved. However, capped remains faster still.

Also, my PSN downloads are not running fast at all... why is this?

One Question What is going on tonight with the download speeds, yesterday the same thing happened, so tonight what is your answer.. Downloading at +-50kb/s on a 4mb account.

What I've notices is that when there has been some problems its due to a disturbance in the force and our BB also indicate this. The service is stable for my downloads and work, now to just improve that latency so I can start playing my PS3 online again

Bandwidth demand is pretty high. We give as much as we can to downloads, but if there is high usage on the network, we have to prioritise other services until the demand diminishes. We'll be releasing the details of our planned upgrades very soon, and we'll hopefully be able to allocate more bandwidth for P2P, as well as introduce better network management and CDN tools to facilitate this. I should get the go-ahead pretty soon to give you guys all the details.

Each time the throttling comes up to bring up P2P and/or torrents is a just a a red herring IMO
I don't think people mind if you throttle P2P and torrents when you don't have capacity. It is the standard port 80 HTTP downloads throttling that make people angry.
 
Indeed, it's 11pm and i'm still geting 7kB/s on http, this is not on :( I wouldn't even mind half line speed.

Test conducted on 11 December 2012 22:50
Download Speed: 126 kbps (15.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 496 kbps (62 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 225 ms

Trust me DO NOT go uncapped with Afrihost. Take a look at the previous posts on this forum, hello peter etc and you'll see why. Most people with any sense have cancelled their uncapped accounts long ago, look elsewhere.

Not true. I have a 10meg uncalled account and am happy. Yes, there have been problems and yes, latency for CT and DBN needs to improve (and will hopefully be sorted out in Feb). Currently watching soccer on Super sport streaming and updating steam at 700kbps.
 
Thats streaming, i have no problems with streaming. I get full line when streaming , but i don't need it right now :(
 
Incidentally, I noticed a d3 latency figure of 189ms yesterday. Nice!

Even after hours, it feels like I'm using the internet over 3G. Everything is patchy, web pages and images come down in little "bursts" and just about everything, even normal http downloads are throttled into the ground. Even working on the account is an annoyance. Local peering is downright terrible most of the time and speeds and latency to local servers are slow and laggy.

Switch over to an IS account, and the difference is night and day. Latency, downloads, streaming - all smooth and near instantaneous.

I gave this a shot because it's the cheapest uncapped 10mbps offering which apparently doesn't get throttled into the ground after you exceed 200gigs or so - but honestly this doesn't make much of a difference if it's just frustrating as hell the rest of the time.

Really wanted to stick with you guys, as your service and clientzone are excellent, as are your instant activation and termination periods. Unfortunately, I will be canceling before the next billing cycle and sticking with IS for now. I don't think MTN's network was ready for an influx of uncapped ADSL users and I'm guessing you guys are trying to deal with it as best you can, but I won't be riding it out for now.

I find that a router reset brings the speed back to normal again.
I am sure they are working on the network most of the time and I find, when everything is slowing down, a router reset gets me back to full speed again. In the last week I have only had to reset the router once :) where previously it was once a day....
 
I still feel http is being shaped down by mistake.

Adobe updates, flatlining at 600kbps. I fired up D3 and it did a peer to peer update at about 4mbps.

I'll look into this. It does seem strange and should really be the other way around ideally :(

This is fairly standard,if I do put a torrent up it flies by at 400KB/s,but a large image on a site or an http download gets 20ish
