Weapon of choice is Firefox with DTA (I reckon it works similar to Speedtest, and you did not provide any limitations). Downloaded the same file as yesterday, to show that I did not choose a file that I know will download fast. You can check the previous pages for speed I got yesterday.

Baseline using Speedtest. Did not pick any specific server.

Hmm... Hard to beat?

18MB File download from whatever CDN.

Not too far off what Speedtest showed.

Testmy.net is up next.

Oh dear.

You're up.

Well u got me this time, but only cause its firefox, use internet explorer for sub-standard results, which is what afrihost is currently giving us!
Saying this, I have seen a marked improvement in speed over the last weeks

This morning I woke up, took my galaxy, and went on facebook... I was impressed with it, and played a video on youtube... wow, it actually streamed. I thought ... WOW afrihost, this is nice. Then I noticed the little H+ on the status bar... and realized, cell C data is flying...

Went on wifi, and AH wasn't bad either. Things seem to be quite stable on my side the last few days.

This is such a flawed argument. Why would you choose an inferior tool if you have access to a better one? Exactly the case with testmy.net. It's an inferior testing tool imho. I did a quick test at the office, where we're on a MWEB business account.

Single instance of Speedtest gives 10Mb download speed. Running two Speedtests gives ~5Mb download each. Why? Because Speedtest makes better use of the available bandwidth.

Running testmy.net gave much lower result for a single instance. So you would expect that running two, it will stay at least the same or better. Which is indeed the case. Running two instances, gave at least what the single test gave, on both tests running simultaneously.

I don't think you can say that because speed test gives you a better result it is the better tool.

From my experience the last couple of weeks. When I try to download a large file lets say a 8 mb store catalog the download speed reported by the browser is usually the same as the speed reported by test my and the speed reported by speed test when you test to one of the international servers.

I think a big part of the confusion is that people run speed test with the default server that pops up (and that's usually the one just down the road from them) and it reports full line speed but in reality they are experiencing slow international downloads.

You are of course correct. I just prefer Speedtest as I do believe with the amount of testing Ookla has done, the tool is probably one of the better ones. I do not mind being proven wrong, as that is how one learns.

The point I am trying to make is that you cannot say AH is prioritizing (or white-listing) certain sites to trick the client with no proof or testing.

With all these arguments :)

I can stream 1080p HD video flawlessly (no buffering), random downloads from anywhere come in on average of 400kb/s. Browsing is normal for me, gaming is perfect.

Speedtest shows 3.5mb (400kb/s)
Testmynet shows 1.5mb (200kb/s)

Maybe AH are blacklisting Testmy :p

I'm downloading Service Packs at full speed, whatever they did it's helped

@Afriman

Great work! Whatever you guys have done over the past few days seems to have sorted my connection out. I've been hitting full line speeds for everything (besides P2P) since Monday. Gaming has been good and youtube and browsing have been fantastic! Keep up the good work! ;)

That's great to hear! Thanks for the post :)

Torrents crapping along at 10KB/s on 1Mbs line, but all else is going good.
Hope to have the download issues completely resolved (Getting 400KBs on my work account on torrents with my new MWEB ACC), will keep AH @ home for the time being as normal service levels are good.

Just got back from a little vacation. Speed seems normal on speedtest.net but my Battlefield 3 update is going at 27-37kB/s :( .... almost 8GB to update.... it gonna take like 70 hours :(

Seems international link gone again, only local browsing working. Local speed test gets 3.5MBPS on 4MB line but international speed test wont even start, gets half way through the ping test then just dies...........
