Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

My ADSL is crawling today...getting less than 1mb on Speedtest.net and downloads are going at 30kb/s *sigh*
It's the weekend after all. Hmmmf

Ok Afrihost you guys are really not interested in fixing my line.

@Afriman, this response is that of someone who could not be bothered to work this weekend.

And yeah, load of rubbish that you are giving me priority at the moment for my browsing and gaming. As soon as I start an P2P my normal browsing becomes impossible. I'm shaped to the max. Do you guys even care about us anymore.

I've had a very frustrating day as I'm also trying to do some studies that required me to download 500Mb of files and packages.

I give up, I don't care, and I'm canceling.

Hi Christopher,

I trust that you are well. :-)

Our Uncapped ADSL accounts are designed to deliver the best possible overall experience to all our clients using it.

We believe that using real times services like web browsing, VoIP, streaming (YouTube) and gaming are our clients priority services. We therefore ensure that these services are given the highest priority on the network at all times. We give downloads, particularly torrents and Peer 2 Peer services lower priority, but we continually strive to deliver the maximum amount of bandwidth to downloads without affecting real time services.

We will continue to dynamically adjust capacity on the network to give the best overall experience to uncapped users, no matter what services they are using, but rest assured that your priority real time services should always run at the best speeds possible. Generally downloads will achieve better speeds in off-peak times, when the demand for bandwidth by realtime services are reduced and network capacity can be allocated.

Please feel free to contact us if your client(s) is not experiencing adequate browsing, streaming or gaming speeds.

Well at least people looking for a new ISP can safely scratch Afrihost off the list of possible ISP to choose from.

Canceled

Some FYI on the process:

Cancelling your ISP account: if you cancel before 25th of month then it will be actioned same month and your service terminates on the last day, this is fair and I do give Afrihost 5 stars for the process.

Cancelling your line: They give you the option of what they must do, cancel completly or move back to Telkom. This gets actioned at end of month. Once again 5 stars for the process.

@Afriman thanks for all your help on this thread even though I've never made use of you. I hope Gian also gets a chance to see this thread. We would not be complaining / complementing if we did not care about your company. I wanted you guys to succeed and really do believe that you are still a good company, but you could not meet my needs.

They are not a good company, not anymore, bunch of arrogant amateurs, it took a lot of harsh words and time (months) on this forum just to get a "sorry we messed up" out of them, with still no financial compensation for their joke of a network, they used to be good (R29/gig + IS Uncapped) but not anymore. The only thing going for them now is their clientzone which is the best there is.

P.S. Somehow I have a feeling that even these IPC upgrades are not going to be enough and they will still be over-subscribed.

Sadly, this is the first weekend I have thought of cancelling.

Been getting terrible speeds all weekend, and it took 7 hours to download a movie I was renting from iTunes. Was looking around and found Mweb has a 7 day trial package. Changed it it quickly, and I am downloading at full line speed. Yes, maybe they don't shape or throttle their trial package or something, but I can't live with downloads at 50kb/s when I am supposed to be getting 400kb/s

Sorry Afrihost...not sure what is up with the service. Calls to the technical centre have them fiddling with my line and settings when clearly, there is nothing wrong on my side if Mweb gives me full speed.

And they're still going to deny being oversubscribed.

And they're still going to deny being oversubscribed.

They just greedy bastards! Let's see how well their "we put our advertising budget back into our cost so we save you money word of mouth advertising strategy" is going to work for them now. They too stupid to see they are shooting themselves in the foot, instead of realising their mistake and trying to keep the unhappy customers happy by eg: giving a discount until its "fixed" and eating humble pie. I see Afriman has given up.

As you can see I am still very bitter about the whole thing.

I must say its not instilling confidence that no official response or even unofficial response has made its way here yet.

It is weekend, yes, but still.. Nothing?

Answered your own question. I don't think there's an official response other than what support will tell you. Except if the network falls over completely.

Cant watch 480p on a 1Meg line. :? I am really hoping the Qos policies are updated soon and perfected!

The future plans in the press release look good, yes, however the interaction with the above posters who are experiencing very slow connections are presently unanswered. E.g. An answer to why the above posters have the same problems despite the system showing green.

Surely there's a good explanation behind slow speeds and unusable browsing and downloads when the system is all green.

I'd like to read what the explanation is while I anxiously wait for my service to go active and secretly hope with fingers crossed that my service will be green light despite the disgruntled posters above complaining about theirs, selfish as that sounds.

My service was actually fine up until the Qos policy was implemented. I've supported Afrihost the whole way but the network has been unacceptably slow and choppy

AND THEY'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!!!

My download speed is equivalent to 33.3k modem. Pay premium rate for sub-standard service.

Its not even related to my ADSL account! I have two(2) and tried someone else's account too!

Afrihost...this is fraud! Your support line is not available. I'm once again cancelling my account!

Anyone else having similar problem or going to do the same?

Finding an ISP - hopefully one on there - who actually delivers on their promise.
