Yo guys

See there a a few questions about the whole mystery discount thing. As far as I'm aware, it being run in batches, so not everyone would have received a mail as yet. It's running from oldest to newest clients, but every client will get a mail in due course.

With regard to the IPC rumours, as far as I know, the go live date is still the 25th, but obviously there is some testing and configuring going on. So far I've seen some mixed results, but just know that when we hit the official live deadline, things should be working as promised :)

Ahh would explain why its back to 200ms + again...

What is this mystery discount thing i hear of? Is it based on how much of a crappy experience one has had in the last 2 to 3 months? NNTP was running at 15KB/s until about 1h45am, then it doubled to 30KB/s after that. Now I'm on 178KB/s on a 2mbps line at 2h19am.

edit: received a 47% discount , R139 off my 2mbps uncapped bill next month...

What a day. First the IPC goes live with good results (latency down a lot) and then my wife clickered us a cool 90% discount for March. And that after receiving free service for Dec, Jan and Feb. I'm in love with AH again!

IPC hasn't gone live yet!

Of course it has, but not officially, they still tweaking and adjusting.

Here my results just done now.

Is that why my speed has dropped in Cape Town? I hate to see what speed I will have when it goes officially live

I hate Afrihost right now

I am on a 2meg account, downloaded 91 gigs so far this month, download speeds during day, 60kbps?
I am not allowed to download 200gigs a month despite paying R500 ?

There's been a few reports of congestion on the Durbanville exchange, and it's also been resolved, then not resolved, as these things go. Telkom are busy laying loads of fibre to old and new exchanges so let's hope that it either gets upgraded or there will be VDSL option pretty soon :(

Had Tera Rising client tell me I'm using a dialup connection and installation would take 1302hours, then realised it was using p2p type tech.

Luckily the Europe client uses something similar to wow or d3 and is running much faster now

As a shaped product, uncapped accounts are designed to give the best download speeds available as the network capacity will allow. We have no problem with any client moving as much bandwidth as they possibly can, we just need to protect the network from high latencies introduced when there is a demand overload. It's absolutely possible to 200GB on a 2Mbps even with current shaping, though once we've added an additional 60% to the network, this should be be even easier than before and both peak and offpeak downloads speeds should see improvement.

Awesome! Glad you got your discount in the end! The full IPC capacity should be live very soon, so please give us a chance to show you how we expect our network to run going forward.
