Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Ok. Switched to my plugg account and PS3 updates downloaded flawlessly.

On AH it constantly gave errors which stopped the download.

Afrimangirl?

Ok, so you guys just billed me for the 50Gb account and I also just paid for my ADSL line with Telkom. Both payments were basically for the month in advance.

When would be the best time to swop over to you guys?...line and data....without obviously paying more than I should.

I would swap when the 50 GB is up or 23rd which ever comes first. If you cancel the 50GB now you loose it. Cancellations happen immediately if they say otherwise they are lying.

Constant disconnects, whole of yesterday and continuing to do so today. *Huge sigh*

I downgraded my 6Mbps business account to 4Mbps, and I'm much happier. Considering that nothing but simultaneous downloads in a download manager or P2P protocol used to break the 500KB/s barrier on the account, it's much better value for money for me to get a slower account that performs identically on Afrihost for 90% of the stuff you can do on the internet.

I haven't had issues like that, but twice yesterday my connection grinded to sub-100kbps speeds and needed a router restart. This is extremely annoying as I replaced both routers in my house a few days ago because the previous Linksys routers were doing this exact thing. Granted, it occurred much more often before I replaced them, but if the issue were to return I would rage with the force of a thousand suns.

I am seriously annoyed right now.
I have downloaded 27.9gigs so far this month on a 2mb line. The result? A 25% Download throttle on downloads, and a 12.5% throttle for torrents for the last 24hours, yes even after 10PM. What happened to ''60% more capacity'' ?

One of your clients downloaded 619.79 gigs last month on a 2mb line. an average of 19.99 gigs a day.
Me? At the rate i am going, I will have downloaded 144.14 gigs per month. An average of 4.65 gigs a month.

Please don't tell me there is something wrong with the line, trace routes and trial accounts run at full line speed.\
Why am I being throttled?

Why am I being throttled?

Same here only I'm on 11.6gig for the month and I'm being throttled to 75% downloads and torrents but I don't think it's for usage as much as the famous ".....as needed to relax network strain" policy thing. Well I'm hoping at least. I'm new to Afrihost and this is more of a trail to see if there worth it.

But it would be good to hear from the rep's about why this is in place on my account a week after I signed up?
And is the EASSy cable system ever going to be at full capacity? Or is this normal to take months around here?

...

When thousands of kilometres long undersea cables go on the fritz it is pretty normal for full restoration to take months, yes. That being said, the flow of communication as to EASSy's status has been beyond terrible, and it's ****ing annoying.

I wonder of this is messing with PS3 games updates.

Mine is the same at the moment, with 9 gigs this month on 1mb.

SABnzbd has downloaded "LinuxS03E06.720p.HDTV.x264-IMMERSE"

Finished at 2013-05-06 19:32:47
Downloaded 1.1 GB

Results of the job:

Stage Download
Downloaded in 28 minutes 9 seconds at an average of 695 KB/s

Note, I have Sab throttled to 700 KB/sec.

If memory serves me right, shaping is region specific (DBN, JHB, CPT IPC)

So JHB has a different shaping policy compared to CPT depending on IPC load and your current usage.........

That seems outrageous. You should be shaped based on how you use your connection, not where you live.

That is why I went over to the business Package downloading with no problems

I downloaded 27.9 gigs by sunday night (very little on a 2mb line if you ask me) , so clientzone told me I had a 60& download speed throttle and a 25% torrent speed throttle.
Since then, I have downloaded 424mb. My reward? A 25% download speed throttle and a 6.5% p2p throttle

Afriman, Would you mind explaining to me how some people can download as much as 19.99 gigs a day, 30 days a month on a 2mb without being throttled while I have been throttled even further, despite massively decreasing on my usage in the last 32 hours:mad:
