Still similar results to that of jannier (although that #7 has come down).

We're still testing on our side, it's not clear what the issue might be. Some of the traceroutes I've received all look very different, so it's difficult to diagnose. Our guys are working on it and I'm waiting on more info.

Sorry guys, I know a Saturday night is the worst time for the internet to misbehave :(

Afriman I sent you a email i think it might be something on one of your nodes ... i get timeouts on some of the tracert ips .... ticket id is UDG-405-88726 . I think that would be the first place to look. Hope this helps a bit???

From my own tests, it seems to be a local issue and not international. But from the results I'm seeing, it's really difficult to pin down the cause. There also seems to be a latency issue that's cropping up everywhere, but we're definitely not getting the volume of complaints that one would expect if there was general latency on the network. We're escalating the issue with MTN and we should be getting some answers soon. I know this is frustrating for everyone, I promise people are being called and brought in to get this moving.

Only thing that really pissed me off was being on the phone this afternoon for 30 minutes and then being cut off instead of just saying we see there is a issue and we working on it. Just have a look at the email that will at least give a idea of the affected segment.

I am on a 1mb business account, and everything tests fine, except youtube is streaming terrible. Buffering a lot, even at 360p and sometimes just freezes up. I know there is snow on the mountains here by us, but this is ridiculous! ;-)

Have I made a mistake moving to Afrihost?

Just moved back to Afrihost and Netflix streaming quality is terrible. Hope this is a temporary glitch else I am leaving for good this time.

We've escalated the latency issue to 3rd level support, and management are intervening to ensure this is looked into and resolved quickly. We are still unsure as to the extent of the impact of the issue, but seems to affect gaming and streaming most. So most using services that are not so latency critical seem to be largely unaffected.

We'll post new information as soon as we have it :(

Afriman that is correct,
I can download from overseas just fine, at full line speed.
But I cannot stream youtube.
Downloading a file that is on a server in JHB takes forever.
Downloading something from here in CPT is at full line speed.

Same experience here, janier. everything is fine from overseas, but local is not lekker. 4MB Business.

I'm not having any issues on YouTube up in the North. Is this limited to the Southern Region?

You tell us. :)

Yes, still having issues in Cpt. YouTube buffers on 360p. It seems that it takes ages for the YouTube stream chunk to start downloading the next segment. Quite annoying situation atm.

Youtube is unusable above 360p in CPT. I get full speed on my 10meg line otherwise. Please fix

latency is great here in centurion

Maybe also inform the Afrihost support guys, as they are still pondering whether to escalate my earlier ticket (#YNH-407-24894) to 2nd level... :D

I notice that I am not going through the google cache for some reason here in PE?

You can see the issue when you download a video from YouTube. Videos download at 17kbs when using youtube.co.za particularly the HD ones. All other downloads are at normal speeds I.e. 400+. To me it looks like shaping on youtube.co.za.

When my kids get off the pc's will try with youtube.com.
