Getting great speeds as usual just annoying that my account keeps dropping. It only loses connection for a few moments and then comes back again.

Strange. We're not having any disconnect issues. Is it dropping in game, or are your losing ADSL connection completely? Please drop me a PM :(

Afriman,

Just a thought,

Why does Afrihost not setup their own speedtest servers?

One on each backbone, because you guys still use both Internet Solutions & MTN Business.

Would be nice to have a site to test to at various points on the network, as a example:

JHB - IS
JHB - MTN

DBN - IS
DBN - MTN

CPT - IS
CPT - MTN

Have a look at what SAIX did here http://capetown.spdtst.saix.net/

Something similar.... It will give us a idea of on net & off net speeds as IS & MTN are both used.

MTN does have their own servers, so I think it would be similar. However this is something that we've been thinking about for sometime. Ideally, we'd prefer for all these kinds of testing to be consistent so that we have a baseline to compare with.

Will see if this idea is still floating around somewhere :)

They dont use IS at all for ADSL.
Everything is on MTN Business.

There are MTN Business speedtest servers in CPT, JHB and DUR already!

Apologise if this s the wrong forum. Would like to know ifAfrihost support downloading from a local usenet server? The feedback on the of this forum sounds good.

We don't blacklist any sites, so you can literally download any data from any server you'd like. NNTP can be shaped during peak demand on Home Uncapped. Otherwise, we don't have any restrictions.

My connection is dropping every few minutes :( happening to anyone else?

Yes also in PE. Internet light is on for a couple of minutes, goes off for a few seconds, comes back on for 2 minutes, goes off - repeat.

DSL light stays on, phone works fine etc.

I have a call in with AH for this. Started yesterday morning.

Definitely not a general problem on the network at the moment. One other similar complaint I check out showed no disconnects on our logs. Looked to me it could be a router issue.

Have our team responded to your query as yet?

Morning AfriMan, seen as though we both are having the same problem and both are in PE could that be an issue with the area instead?

Yes they contacted me yesterday. Asked me to try a different router, which I did. No change to constant disconnection. There is a fault open now with Telkom (my line is with AH)

BTW - I tried a Plugg account as well. Same thing, so to me it's certainly a Telkom issue.

Definitely possible, if Telkom doesn't drop the connection on their side, may explain why our logs don't show a disconnect. I haven't seen anything posted on Telkom's site yesterday or today, either faults or maintenance.

Afrihost still use IS for hosting, which is what is needed for speedtest servers.....

So basically MTN servers will be regarded as on net
and IS servers regarded as off net

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

Seems neither telkom nor afrihost can solve this one:

Since i signed up with afrihost (from april) i noticed that speedtest results between local and international servers were very different (international is consistently about 1/3 of local download speed test) ive tested with mybroadband speed test and speedtest.net with the same results (saix speed test gives me crazy results such as 15mbps on a 4mbps line for some reason???)

both telkom and afrihost claim their side is clean with no detectable problems and have suggested that the problem is with my computer or modem. ive tested with different routers and computers and consistently get the same results:
