Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Who do you use? I used AstraWeb, but experienced horrible results with larger files especially. It must have an API that can work with SickBeard though.
Astraweb as well. But I bought a 1000GB block account that never expires, and they allow 50 connections (although I get full speed using 20). But I'm looking at changing providers because they seem to be caving in to these DMCA takedown requests.

As for the SickBeard API, it doesn't matter which provider you use, because you get the API key from whichever indexing site you use to get your NZB files from (I use NZBMatrix - $10 once off).

This from AH website:

Uncapped ADSL Network Latency
High Impact
Opened: 10:12 Wed, October 10, 2012

We are currently experiencing latency on our Uncapped DSL network the cause is still unknown and our upstream providers are investigating.

We apologize for the inconvenience and delays caused and hoping the matter should be rectified shortly.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

1) I have no worse latency than always. 15 ms local ping is quite the norm.

2) 0.39 MB download on the other hand is quite a blunder, considered I'm on AH's 4MB uncapped.

3) How do they know we have patience and understanding?

Are there many other people out the sitting with a 2meg line but 1meg data uncapped?
It's frustrating knowing that mine line is not being fully utilized... :(

Yes, I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure I want 2Mbps at this time, and until I hear from Afrihost that it is safe to do so, I don't want to downgrade my ADSL line from 2Mbps to 1Mbps, just in case Telkom decides to give me 384kbps instead. I guess you could pay the extra R100 a month and upgrade to 2Mbps on the Afrihost end.

So, for you guys who are on MTN already: How are your international download speeds?

When downloading from mirrors.is.co.za, it only takes one connection to max out my 2Mbps line. However, when downloading from overseas (tried Hetzner/DE and Zen Systems/DK so far), I get about 400-500kbps per connection, and thus it takes 4-5 connections to max out my 2Mbps.

d7e7r7 Sorry but I do not understand your comment. You bought a 1meg data package from Afrihost. You get 1 meg. If you give them (at todays prices) R100 extra you can up your data to 2meg.
Me myself? I am not sure if I can afford the extra R100 per month.

All accounts are moving. I just got the email and I am on 1 meg.

I presume you have noticed by now that NOT all accounts are moving! those with @is.afrihost.co.za like my 1-2 meg uncapped is staying. Although my bundle account will move.

I first pop in here and see people bitching about line speeds and threatning to goto mweb. I goto Mweb uncapped and see the same thing, bitching about line speeds. hehehehe

Before people bitch what I would like to see is a "I am on is.afrhost or afrihost and I have downloaded xyz gigs this month on my 1,2,4,10 meg line........". The line speeds are going to stay crappy even after the move to Mweb. Look at the Axxess thingy .... that is what will kill your line.

Teach us your ways please grandmaster Hoxbig :D

No big secret, just sign up with one of them and they'll give you the settings. Just replace the settings that you already use (news.is.co.za or whatever the case) with the ones they provide.

that's pretty weak. so they route international to mail.google.com - was hoping the routing was the same as their dedi servers (eg: hetzner)

Definitely impressed with my MTN network test account! If it stays like this once everyone moves over Afrihost have defiantly found pure Internet joy.

Bring on ISP of the year 2013...
