Guys, DO NOT TAKE UP LINE MIGRATION from afrihost. They can't change the line speed on their systems. I'm busy cancelling my service and asking for refund.

Yes they can. I was testing different sync rates the other day, and it took no longer than two minutes to get their telephonic support to change them each time.

This is absurd. I logged a support ticket and also PM'ed Afrigirl regarding the problem. NOBODY responded. I'm thinking of logging my incident on HelloPeter.

I've confirmed with Telkom telephonically and also on their exchange speed testing website. Both have confirmed that my line can be upgraded from 2mbps to at least 4mbps. Afrihost told me this morning they "can't do it on their system because the system is refusing it".

I find this post very strange. People (like me) join Afrihost because they are the cheapest, they try to be good and sometimes succeed. BUT I, IMHO, would not migrate my line management to Afrihost because the cost saving is not worth the pain of moving it back etc. I find the post strange because I suspect the OP is looking for a cheap internet and now is canceling for a more expensive deal. I would just cancel the line management transfer back to Telkom and ask them to bump up my line speed.

And the thing is... Nobody from Afrihost responded. Both the people dealing with support tickets and also representatives on this forum didn't reply to my query.

Yea.. That's what I'm doing. I'm cancelling my service so that I can bump up my line speed with Telkom. If Afrihost can't bump up the line then why take up new orders for line migration in the first place???

They're just creating more admin for themselves and also A LOT of BAD REPUTATION by offering line migration... I just want my refund now...

I'm very angry because nobody responded to my problem.

Even if my problem happens to be a not-so-usual case, then why not tell me what's wrong and what the problem is??? It seems that Afrihost just don't want to waste time with unusual cases and not bother responding???

Maybe their performance is related to the number of successful support tickets closed or problems resolved. So if the system gives an unusual error then they don't even bother responding to the client???

Can Afrihost representatives provide an input into this??? That would be very much appreciated-

I got my uncapped yesterday and LOVING IT!!!! Also migrating my line to afrihost. Have been getting way better speeds than Telkom so far. Awesome guys. I'm very happy for now!!!

Without the line bundle, Telkom is cheaper at R699 for the 10mbps account (http://www.do.co.za/broadband/offerings/telkom-internet-plans/uncapped/do-uncapped-up-to-10mbps/).

I really wanted Afrihost service but why am I not getting proper treatment? I've also been billed twice (1 - debited in to their account, 2 - double charged with automatic debit from my bank account). So I don't even know how smooth the refund is going to go...

CharlesL you clearly have no patience or idea of how things work. I applied to move my line to Afrihost. They explained that it would take a few days which it did. Once moved they then needed to bump up the speed. In the meantime I called telkom and bumped it up myself. Doesnt matter who your line is with. My line is with Afrihost and Telkom still bumped it up from 2mb to 10mb without issue. I am really enjoying the fact that you can "fix your line" on the clientzone. Cant do that when Telkom is in control of you line so good luck

You just need to speak to the right person at Telkom. Some are "less technically minded" and so they say it cant be done. I know Afrihost can do it as well so be patient.

Loving Afrihost so far :)

Reaper84:

I lost patience because 1. - Telkom told me the line has already been migrated so they can't bump up the speed, 2 - Afrihost told me they can't bump up my speed even to 4mbps.

Yeah its who you speak to at Telkom. Keep calling and you will get someone that can do it. I tried 3 times and finally got a guy that knew what he was doing. In under a minute I was syncing at 10mb

Why don't you just pick up the phone?

And the thing is... Nobody from Afrihost responded. Both the people dealing with support tickets and also representatives on this forum didn't reply to my query.

Again, try picking up the phone.

Afrihost pays a bunch of people to man their telephones for most of every day. Much less so for three individuals to be available on a forum. Afrihost manages my line, and they do an excellent job of it. Feel free to complain here if the call centre fails you.

I've already called Afrihost four times. Two of them told me on the phone they cannot bump up the line speed on their side. Other two were sales related representatives.

Ok, thanks. Let me try calling Telkom again.

It sounds like your issue has nothing to do with just selecting a sync rate then, because if it did they could do it in a few seconds. What speed does Afrihost think your line is capable of and what has Telkom said they can increase it to?

Afrihost says the system shows 4mbps only but they can't sync it to 4mbps. Telkom website speed tester says 10mbps, and when I called they said definitely 4mbps and when line gets upgraded to 4/10mbps type they can then assess 10mbps (but website said 10mbps so they said it's possible).
