Something weird must have been going on. It's normally around 9ms. It's currently around 20ms, which is a massive improvement over nearly a second. Hopefully it will find its way back to normal.

Well, if you are comparing a Free GB to a Business DSL, the performance should be more or less the same, particularly in the day. The only difference between Capped Unshaped and consumer Uncapped (if unshaped) is QoS applied to ensure that your own services run smoothly (i.e. if you are running competing services locally, real time will get preference).

As far as I know, East Coast is experiencing little to no shaping at the moment :)

Yep, happy as a pig in.....:o

Not blown away by afrihosts support services so far,

I have had slow international speeds since I joined Afrihost at beginning April but I had assumed it was due to the eassy problem. Seems it wasn’t because Afrihost website has a green light but my international was still 0.5mbps on a 3mbps line (local is consistent at 2.5mbps)

I reported this to afriman on Wednesday and ive been unimpressed with afrihosts response since. I sent all the usual speed tests and tracert info on Wednesday but haven’t heard a peep since. In the meantime I used a trial account to try and troubleshoot the problem myself and found that I get 2.5mbps for local and international on this account proving that the problem is clearly on afrihosts side. I informed them of this this morning but still no response…. Is it really this complicated?

Sorry to hear our guys didn't get back to you on this. I was told that this was being sorted out with you. Please drop me a PM so I can follow it up with the team and make sure they follow this up ASAP :(

My connection is dying on me somewhat frequently, maybe 2-4 times a day. I've had this issue before about two weeks ago and I spent R1.5k replacing both routers in my house (one boosts wifi). Not particularly happy about this.

The Play Store is faster these days, but still stabilises around 100KB/s which isn't exactly great. Youtube is better, but can't stream HD. The PSN is still diabolical, but apparently this is Sony's fault.

For psn I've always done the downloads via a ps3 proxy. Get the URL from the proxy log and then download at full line speed with a download manager on the pc, then do the download locally to the ps3.

My Mediafire account actually hosts one of the more popular proxy download links. I've been using it for years. It's becoming less and less useful as multiple IP ranges are needed, downloads within the store bypass the proxy and Playstation Plus is needed to proxy patches.

It's infuriating that Sony saw fit to try thwart proxy users when their servers are so slow. Having said that, Hitman and Catherine were pretty painless to download and install via the proxy. ME3 was a b*tch.

I am getting rather tired of not getting the speed I am paying for. Local Linux repositories are going at 350-500kbps....Not the speed I am paying for...I must now ask myself, why do I keep paying for it.

Dude, with the tracert you showed yesterday, you are going to run into all kinds of ****, unil the exchange is upgraded or you are moved o a less congested DSLAM.
Your problems are not suddenly gonna go away, you will have erratic adsl behavior.
Posting here is not going to solve it, you will have to engage telkom with logs, tracert and proofs, and just maybe they will help, if you speak with a technician that knows his stuff.

I mean excluding the strange exchange congestion. For years it's been a fast exchange, and only congested the last two days. Even then it comes and goes at sporadic times.

Happened to me about 2.5 month ago, luckily got a very clever techy here and he sorted everything out in 40 minutes, got me moved to a less congested DSLAM, been fine since, "touch wood"
