Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Hey guys

Just be warned that there are an unusually high number of exchanges around the country having ADSL issues, including Grahamstown, Meyerton, Sunninghill, Durban North and Fourways.

Not sure when Telkom will be addressing this, but we'll let you know when we have more information. We'll update you as we get more info :(

Well, Grahamstown also had an electricity blackout all day. Last night and now, max line speed is 1Mb/s on a line that syncs at 8Mb/s. I have 4MB business Uncapped. It is bundled with my ADSL line, so I guess it is up to Afrihost to sort this out.

Indeed. Its never been an issue.

I'm looking to move to AH next month but if this is the case there is no way I'm moving. I'm not interested in being routed around the world thanks.

We've logged with our network guys, but they are certain that nothing has changed on our side. There are some reports that other ISP's are having similar issues on local game servers, so it may be a peering link down, or possibly another issue we're not aware of.

We'll keep pursuing this until we get some concrete feedback :(

Tweaking tools on Afrihost client panel are not working on my line either. I guess I will have to wait for some Telkom dude to flick a switch tomorrow morning when he gets back to work.

I'm having the same issue. I'm with Afrihost. Some people on Telkom also reporting higher than normal pings on DotA 2 (200+)

Using a Webafrica trial account. No problems. Normal 30-35 latency. I hope you can sort it out ASAP.

Monday Morning is here, and ADSL downloading is only marginally better than dial-up. Strangely, uploading is fine, and much much faster than downloading.

Telkom still have an open fault for all ADSL users nationally. Guess there is still sporadic issues with exchanges with connectivity issues. What we're seeing is that the notice board is lighting up occasionally with a string of exchanges, and Telkom is resolving within 3-4 hours. We're not entirely sure what the issues are, but symptoms seem to range from diminshed throughput and high latency to no authentication at all :(

Can the guys who are still experiencing issues this morning please drop me a PM so we can check if this is the case, or if these are regular line issues?

Hi Afriman, i am not having any line issues.
Only had an authentication issue on Friday evening.

Dota 2 latency is still above 200ms.
It has nearly been happening for a week now.

Its a bit frustrating having to connect to a free webafrica account to play dota 2.
Please sort it out asap or give us an update as to what you suspect the issue is and the ETA as to when it will be resolved.

Thank you.

We're still waiting for feedback from the network engineers. We're still not able to replicate on our side, but we're trying several alternatives to find where there could be a possible issue. We have also received tests and traces from several clients, so that is also very helpful.

As soon as I have more info, we will update everyone :(

Hi AfriMan, I have been a long time MWEB subscriber (remember when their flagship product was the big black box, yeah since then)

Anyways I decided to cut ties to them due to the bad speeds I was getting on my line for over a year (<1meg speeds on a 2meg business uncapped account). We ruled out congested exchange, noisy line, dodgy router etc. So I have about 6 more days to serve till my MWEB account gets dropped(you have to give 1months cancellation notice). Anyways I was wondering how quick is it to get an Afrihost account going? I think on the 1st of July I'll need a business uncapped account (which I believe is unshaped and unthrottled 24/7?) Also do you guys have a 1months notice cancellation agreement on your services as well?

Thanks for the help

Drop me a PM, so I can sort out a little discount for you on your first month with us :)

Hi AfriMan, My Router seems to be blocking the Play Store, and it was suggested to me that it could be the ISP or DNS settings.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/538039-My-Router-seems-to-be-blocking-the-Play-Store

What could it be? Please help

We definitely don't block the Play store, or we'd have half the guys on this thread up in arms. In fact, we don't really block any sites on our network, we trust the people out there to use the bandwidth wisely.

Are you not connecting at all, or is it saying something like 'Not available in your country'? Please PM me, let's see what's up :(

Just an update on this. We see that changes have been made on the routing (not from us) and traces are looking normal again. Anyone still having issues with this?

Also in the same boat as CrazYmonkeY159, and would not mind a discount as well ;)

And was I wrong to assume that your business uncapped accounts are also unshaped? IIRC you were the one who posted this. But I will PM later today :)))

Can you drop me a PM with your DSL username so I can take a look at this for you?
Your speeds shouldn't be fluctuating this much :(

Unfortunately not much has helped. Support just changed my sync rate to 4096mbps but still getting this kind of performance at least once every 24 hours. Have to disconnect and reconnect the ADSL to fix it. Then the next day it starts doing this again.

It's not the slowest speed ever but it's weird how websites just refuse to load. I have to refresh speedtest.net a whole lot of times before it loads.
Videos literally cannot load at all. The screen just stays black. I haven't left it that long to see if it loads eventually. The time it takes to reset the router and let it connect again has been faster so far so i just do that every time.

I'm pretty sure it's not the router or my computer cause it worked without a single problem before the MTN migration, and it recently worked flawlessly for a week when i tried a MWEB uncapped trial. Even with crappier SNR than it has now.

This is after a reset

Gonna try to do a speedtest every hour or so and see how many hours it goes until it starts its nonsense.
