Hi,

so I am considering getting the uncapped ADSL package that Afrihost has to offer, however i need to know if there is a support structure in place for people that cannot set up a modem ( my mum ) lol... she lives in a different city to me, so i wll not be able to do it, and i dont think i can handle a 2 hour fone call...

oh and #2.... do i get a free modem?

:-)

thanks...

We don't do free modems :( But, if you do order a router from us, it can be delivered pre-configured, so you literally plug it in and play!

We also have a 24 hour support team, and our call centre is available until midnight on weekdays, or anytime by SMS or email. So we can always call your mum and talk her through getting it all working 100%.

Unfortunately not much has helped. Support just changed my sync rate to 4096mbps but still getting this kind of performance at least once every 24 hours. Have to disconnect and reconnect the ADSL to fix it. Then the next day it starts doing this again.

It's not the slowest speed ever but it's weird how websites just refuse to load. I have to refresh speedtest.net a whole lot of times before it loads.
Videos literally cannot load at all. The screen just stays black. I haven't left it that long to see if it loads eventually. The time it takes to reset the router and let it connect again has been faster so far so i just do that every time.

I'm pretty sure it's not the router or my computer cause it worked without a single problem before the MTN migration, and it recently worked flawlessly for a week when i tried a MWEB uncapped trial. Even with crappier SNR than it has now.

This is after a reset

Gonna try to do a speedtest every hour or so and see how many hours it goes until it starts its nonsense.

Sorry that it's still giving you such an intermittent experience. There definitely seems to be an issue between your router and the DSLAM, sounds like there is a progressive loss of sync, and it needs to reset the connection to re-establish a good sync. Not good at all.

Will chat to our guys to try and see what we can do for you about this :(

Checking for your PM with your username. Maybe it was sent to Afriguy or Afrigirl. Can you drop me a PM?

Just an update on this. We see that changes have been made on the routing (not from us) and traces are looking normal again. Anyone still having issues with this?

Dear Afriman, (or anybody that knows the answer):p

Say, for instance, I've got a telkom telephone line, and I want to get my adsl uncapped bundle from you guys: will you charge me an installation fee for the ADSL part of the line (like telkom does) or how does it work? Cant seem to find an answer on your website:o

As someone who recently got Afrihost to convert my landline into an ADSL line, there is no installation fee for the ADSL portion of the line.

We don't charge you an installation fee at all, and Telkom will not bill you for installation either :)

How long did it take Afrihost to convert the line?

I ordered today.

It can take up to 30 days in extreme cases where there are no available technicians or no available ports, in which case Telkom puts the application on hold until month end in case of cancellations or upgrades.

Generally though, it's a lot shorter and sometimes can happen as quickly as 7-8 days. Really depends. Plan for the worst, but hope for the best (my personal motto when it comes to the green & blue people) :)

Thanx Afriman!

Howzit peeps, just ditched TI after having my 4mb line installed 2 weeks ago to drop Dstv. Latency has been bad since day 1 in CPT and as we all know, support is terrible. Here's hoping happier days with AH!

Is anyone else experiencing seriously high local & international latency?

My pings to JHB are currently at 300 - 600ms:(

Afriman we have been having heavy latency issues with afrihost..when i switch over to mweb its fine???any idea???it looks like some nodes on the mtn backbone...

Can you upload a Traceroute? Local & international if possible

All ISP's seem to be having problems with authentication and latency, not to mention bad throughput....

It also seems to be intermittent....

Wait I have one word to sum up all the above = Telkom
